My pathetic attempt at (dry-fried) peppercorn cauliflower. Except that I don’t have peppercorn so I modified it using whatever I had at home. 56CFCAFB-E229-4DBF-902C-ADCA533D9AF1.jpeg

Black forest cake as it's cherry season in Australia.

I usually make this cake with new season cherries. They're not good enough to eat alone but when cherries are at their peak I'd rather eat them fresh than in a cake. So early in the season it is for this cake!

Gift from a good friend - an ounce of Siberian caviar with creme freche and unsalted chips! He even gave me an egg but I think I’ll just eat that plain. Was too lazy to go out just for chives.

That looks worth a try
Ive never had caviar - I'd have to forget for a moment what it actually is :mrgreen2:

Even if you have nothing else eattable in your garden, chives are a must !
I miss them when they go dormant over winter

Winter solstice Dongzhi, which are plain and red bean paste stuffed rice balls. The “soup” is ginger and pandan infused syrup. I used frozen pandan leaves for a stronger flavour.

I totally went off the rails a few days ago. Donuts, chocolate covered popcorn, chocolate bars. All eaten during festive activities but still......

I. Lost. My. Mind.

I just completed a two day fast to clear my body and my mind. I am making veggies, chicken and salmon for dinner tonight.

Awesome! I planned to make this as well but the Thai dessert style which is called "bua loy." It uses yellow mung beans and coconut milk. =)2

I keep making this Mac n’ cheese. I can’t help myself. My teen lives on it until it’s gone. I call it “crack n’ cheese.”

She has some good tips there
I never knew to use hot milk to make the sauce and to was off the starch of the under cooked pasta
Thanks for posting

Happy new year cooks !
How is celebratory eatting going for those of you in some form of lockdown ?
I am so full !
had a pork roast for new years day's dinner
my mum always cooked a propper descent sit down meal on new year's day
had the rhubarb blueberry compot topped with lemon posset
20201231_135639.jpg
Alot more success than last night's new year's eve loaded fries and chicken drums - the idea was good - the execution somewhat lacking
But any meal with bacon can't be all bad !

but something sooooo excitting happened in the kitchen
(Almost as excitting as finding a bread knife finally)
We have this annoying (rather than completly useless) cupboard next to the oven
On the top shelf i keep queesh dishes and round casserole dishes- my square dishes wont fit
anyway for some reason i bent down and looked in the bottom shelf
holy cow !
It was a brand new roasting pan that came with the oven - the kind that's like a deep tray that slots in like a shelf
And racks
all that lockdown baking i did with no racks to cool anything on

and
yes
There was more !
a regular sized muffin tray still with its packaging attached !

i don't even remember putting any of it in there ?
Maybe Gary did when he installed the oven

So tonight i made the best roast spuds because there was descent room in the roasting tray !

Also made Gary maple carrots but i do that in a ramkin because i hate carrots and dont want my spuds and kumera tasting all sweet
Made a nice festive change to the honey seseeme carrots i do him every now and again

Oh for new year's breakfast we had banana pancakes and bacon
OMG ! We had pork 3 times today
(The last four meals we have eatten all had bacon or pork )
at lunch we had pork ribblet samwhiches

There are these pork ribblet things i love that come frozen from the supermarket
They taste almost as good as the MacDonalds El Maco which they never do often enough

I only buy them when they are on special because considering they are just made from mince they are not good enough for full price
But this week they had $5 off
so yesterday morning i walked into town and brought two packets
i packed my frozen gel pack to keep them frozen on the way home and off i went
(I took the bus - i was getting too sunburnt)
I did shout myself a $1 strawberry milk :rodent:

that's a lot of waffle from me !

Oh its rocket !
I find it a bit bitter but im willing to try it in quesh
Has to be better than tinned asparagus

not bitter when cooked like this....in fact I really didn't notice it at all.

I used to use tinned asparagus in my soufflé---but it had to be "squeezed" (mashed) dry. Otherwise soggy.

I posted these all over the place on various thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years posts, but finally add them to this Covid eating album. I don’t think My husband and I have put on any weight because we workout every day , but my son who came home for the holidays says he has gained 10 lbs since Thanksgiving!

Making curry out of the left over new year pork
(We had samwhiches yesterday)
using up some spinach i frooze because it never got made into salad over Christmas
Some left over pinnaple
Carrot, dont think i can sneak in lentils today with Gary watching so i grated up a kumera instrad
he insisted on a tin of tomatos so i had to up all the spices because that kind of diluted the curry flavour
Waiting on the brown rice to cook

Curry was a definite success
made enough for two extra bowls ill top with mash for lunch next week
Frooze the last of the xmas cake
despite all the rum it just didn't look like it was keeping all that well this year

I have the cinnamon rolls about to go in the oven
i left them to rise in the window in the last if the day's sun in the Bruce room
it smelt like a bakery in there

I kind of mucked up the recepie a bit
i forgot to get butter so used olive oil and i didn't use any water because i was using left over milk and egg from an egg glaze and there was a bit much

Oh well
fingers crossed
