House COLOR Help ... PLZZZ!

I totally hear ya but let me tell you what I did with my house (not the one I''m in - my old farmhouse that''s got renters in it since we''re just here for 6 mos ::sob

my house is all white on the outside - totally and some idiot put the top floor in vinyl but thankfully the rest is white... anyway I thought of painting it a while back and I have a lot of creative things I could do but I put it off and did the inside... I did each room in a different color all with white trim. Living room was "Zen Mist" green with a very muted robin''s egg blue couch and white sheers etc. and the tuscan yellow orange color in my dining room - these rooms were side by side and walking into the kitchen was like walking into the heart of the house - it was so warm and energizing... and walking into the living room was like walking into an oasis... the most peaceful and calming room I''ve ever owned filled with all kinds of blue and green and lots of wood furniture...

so my point is, when you walk into a room it makes a statement about itself... the contrast between standing outside your front door and being inside of it should be a transition - but emphasis on the end result of being in a new and different room. So when you look at your front door you want to view the room as the world around it. Doors open and offer a peek at what is to come, but they can be very different scenes and really work. 99% of the time the door will be closed and you can create that outdoor space to what reflects what you want... that top red is actually very close to a shade that works with the purple. It gets too "royal" if it''s too bright and it doesn''t match tonally (again feel free to ignore that or anything else - I''m just having fun, I don''t have to live with it lol) but the one above plays a little more into grey and a little more into coral maybe... the softer look goes with the purple a bit more based on *this* picture... how it looks in real time at your front porch is another story.

oh my goodness - you could get so creative, bring out the victorian roots to that house... you can do d) all of the above (if you do it right lol)

I like green.. it keeps to the roots of the house in a special way - but I''m not sure about kale or the other... maybe a mockup of greens and a mockup of oranges? you really may be able to combine them both in that entry... maybe frame the... what are those called? the porch roof? in a green that you have where it is green now and then some burnt orange around either ON the door or around the door? Again, can''t be too bright but there is a color there to be found both in orange and green... just have to find the right place on the wheel.

I like green and orange for the shutters (are you painting those now?) but I think you can bring another color on the door... what about keeping all the trim white, painting the shutters green, and painting the door orange? Or painting the shutters orange and the door green? There could be a really nice place in there.

And here's the chimney .. though I'm slightly worried folks will see these pictures & jump back on the 'Stick with White & Green' wagon -- Kaleigh?

I still think purple will look great!! Chimney included.

p.s. I am loving either the orange or darker purple door!

you know... you could pull an orange out of your fireplace... if you pick a nice warm color that goes with the brick, the stone, the purple - it could look so beautiful, really tying everything together... but you might have to think broader in the orange spectrum than just trend.

or what about a gray trim with red door. that could be interesting if the gray trim is very ''wintry'' and not warm.

PS i see there are like 50 more posts after i see the pictures of the door so maybe this is a moot ''chime-in''...

alternatively, you could paint the picket fence red.

Okay I think I''m switching gears... I am leaning toward the red right now lol Maybe that magical color between red and orange, that coordinates with both the stone and brick (tying them together), and giving you the red door I think you''ve always wanted... it could even be cool, but not too cool for the brick... you''d have to find a color in that range... hmmm... but no, I''m not back on the keep it white bandwagon. Honestly I was on that bandwagon myself until I saw mystical actually ON your house in the dappled sunlight. SOLD! Whatever you pick has to work with that.

what about a brick red door? Something grey enough to go with the purple so that it didn't look like you were creating a royal throne... and yet... ya kinda would

Find that harmony between the blue red and burnt orange - and if it doesn't go with the insides - who cares! people will love the outside and when they go in they will love the adventure into another world

I love this look...my second vote for a red door!

It''s a very clean look...but the red holds its own with the purple.

Sherwin Williams ... my painter thinks its the most durable exterior paint but prefers Ben Moore interior. I found out that SW can make any of BM''s colors though & many of their other competitor''s colors -- so if you see something you like in another brand -- post away!!

Hehe I KNEW mythical was going to be closest! I have been doing this for way too long...I can now anticipate colors based on computer monitors.

FWIW I LOOOOOOOVE that last picture with the red door and whitish shutters. DIVINE!

I still like the green, but this looks great too!! I think a red door would be good. Red or green. Not a fan of any oranges I''ve seen. Green seems trickier than red though...

I wonder how it would look if I painted the inset detail on the door overhang the same "Luxurious Red" (or berryish red) I''ll paint on the screen door and inside door? If it would draw attention to the entryway as a whole a bit more -- which kind of gets lost sometimes under the overhang''s shadow. The doors were white when I bought the house & I kinda see why now -- painting them a DARK color like I did (very dark green) they become a "black hole" - rather than a welcoming portal.

I think the house being purple with white trim will more than bring out the detail in the door. I''m not sure if I''d start painting anything on the house different colors. I''m going back to berry red in a slightly lighter color than the red you''re showing for a brighter door...

this is the only green that I thought fit tonally with the purple (but again - monitors, swatches, none of it do justice to the eye)

Called Garden Spot (which sounds good with mythical and I really am a dork lol)

our door is kind of like the 4th one in cehra's pick but it's natural wood stain so it's more mahogany looking than orange.

also deco our door is new, they are not THAT expensive depending on where you buy so it might be an option if you don't like the painted version. or you strip down your door and stain if you don't want a 'paint color'.

i really like the reddish doors with white shutters.

(eta but ooh that green door is actually really nice with that purple. but also it would depend on what landscaping you were going to do.... it might wash out the door)
