Deco, I am LOVING Plummy (and would absolutely paint my house purple, if it were the right style home; how lowbrow of me). I think the red door is fun, but actually prefer the lilac door.

Thanks KimberlyH ... love the pale, icy lilac door in the original photo but haven''t been able to find that exact color yet. That''ll be my NEXT go round of samples. The people at SW will think I''m a (low class) LOON.

Hi Deco! Life is short......go for the purple that you love!!!

You might stay longer than you think in this house, so paint it with a colour that you really enjoy!

p.s. I think the shingles would look great in black when you replace them, to coordinate with the purple/white trim combo.

Behr makes a nice color - Mystic Echo. Don''t know if it''s too dark for ya...

Deco I love those purples. And personally I think your house is already going to attract only certain buyers. And IMO those kind of buyers won''t be afraid of the purple and might just love it. I do!
I agree with Neat, so I''d do the purple with the red door, and I go either cream or white on the shutters.

love this!!!

THANKS STARSET!!! Checked out that blog & I guess Minnesota is full of these purple houses ... maybe I should move there? I love that Behr color you posted too. Might check it out if the *four new samples* I just brought home from Sherwin Williams don''t do the trick. ALL of them are trying to match the "Starset Original Purple House".

Thanks Himr & AllisonD! I''ve got a big posh plush hug for all my purple pals

Love the purple idea. I think it would look smashing. Several years ago on an episode of This Old House they used pumpkin on a house and it was really nice. A warm & inviting look.

you are probably not an orange person since you haven't commented on this picture. i had not thought about orange but after seeing this pic i think maybe a burnt orange would go with the green you already have on the shutters. good luck on whatever you choose and i would love to see the finished project.

eta: my mistake, i see you did comment on the pumpkin color.

Hi Crown1 ... yes, that pumpkin house is amazing. And its certainly tempting at this time of year in the Northeast - because it matches the fall scenery.

Maybe my *next* house!

what about a burnt pumpkin door to go with that rich purple?

Add some cream shutters and it would be a beautiful look. I cannot wait to see what you decide to do.

Green door?

Green door?
I was just thinking of that last night! We have two "front doors" ... one opens into a medium green room & one opens into a red room. I think that color green would work with the INTERIORS they'd be in sometimes. AND work with the cottage-ish container garden/ cottage garden we have around both entrances. Groovy combo!

ETA: So, Tacori, that's why I'm also thinking orange/pumpkin etc might *not* work for our house's doors right now. Would be pretty garish against either interior room sadly. Pretty color though. I love that its kind of like sunsets -- deep purple and glowy orange.

I am totally on board with the purple house :) I think an orange or green door would look *awesome* but red would look over the top... and as for purple, I wouldn''t be afraid to go dark, but you do need to consider how much grey is in it... I don''t know how vibrant you want to go. Personally I like the darker medium colors but in a slightly greyer scale like that 3rd one down... but not grey - just not skittle lol

Okay, I replied before without scrolling through all the posts. I did not care for your original purples in your poll, but I do like the 1st picture Starset posted. That purple looks really nice with the white trim and gray roof. I would probably stick with a more neutral front door, like natural stained mahogany or black or charcoal paint. I also like the middle SW sample you posted.

I also think the house would look nice in a lighter purple with some gray tones -- it might be a bit more "neutral." Maybe a "thistle" color.

Here''s Plummy and a SW color called "Inland" ...

Darker green - tad more yellow...

Here''s Plummy w/ Cilantro

And here are the testers I bought today ... one coat only, because its about to rain here.

And a little closer on the front view. Colors represented here are: Wood Violet, Mystical, Purple Passage & Plummy.

WHICH IS IT?????? Omg. Am losing my mind.

I don''t think you can go wrong except my least favorite is Mystical. My eye keeps gravitating towards Purple Passage even though I *thought* I''d like Wood Violet the best. And just to confuse things, I think Plummy matches the Starset purple house

Awwwww .... look what just came to the front door ... artfully displayed on my purple swatches. Its our third anniversary today.

Wood violet! It''s SO pretty, and looks like a really good match (at least on my monitor).

Awww, Deco, that''s so sweet!

I know I haven''t weighed in on the color scheme, but I just have to swoon over how adorable those flowers and note from the hubby are.

My absolute favorite house in our area is done in purples. The house is a deep plum and has this gorgeous lilac door. There are no shutters, but I *think* the trim is done in this beautiful buttery cream color. I think lilac trim would have been too much purple, but the door looks great. Anyway, I love how this process is coming along and can''t wait to see the final decision!

That''s a thoughtful purple gesture!
Maybe you should open up a new poll with those colors Deco!

wow your DH is so sweet and supportive.

I''m way too wussy to do colors, but I''m loving following this thread...these purples are yummy I have to admit.

NEGirl: speaking of, I think we have anniversaries that are close, hope yours was good (even if no purple flowers

Good idea ... I just finished the 2nd coat on all the colors & they''re drying. Probably won''t have sun today to take more exterior shots but its supposed to be sunny tomorrow. Maybe I''ll do a new poll with new pictures if the pictures look different w/the 2nd coat -- or with these pictures if they don''t look different.

Thanks Princess & New England Lady! That''s cool about the purple house near you, NEL. Sounds gorgeous.

Sidenote: purple has always been my favorite color. Every year when they asked me what kind of birthday cake I wanted I''d answer "purple!" My great grandmother knitted an afghan for me when I was but a wee thing: the colors I requested ... purple & pink. Also: My first word was "Plum". Seriously. And DH''s pivotal, life-changing job was at a co. whose trademark color was purple. I guess we''re purple people.
