Greetings - I'm hunting for an old mine cut cushion diamond and in my hunt I came across this type of cut (see pic below). I cannot find any information on this type of cushion and the pic looks very different from the other cushion cuts.

The diamond(s) with this cut look very much like old mine to me. Any help or information on this type of cut is a big help. I found a few diamonds I'm interested in with this cut but I'm nervous about pulling the trigger.

Thank you!'

Don't pull the trigger until the experts chime in. There are many on this site who can help you to find a wonderful cushion stone within your budget. Post your budget and parameters and I am sure that you will get the help you need. There are many who can help you - Gypsy, DS2006, Flying Pig, tyty, - just to name a few. And I am sure that you will hear from them very soon.

I don't have the expertise to help you with purchasing a nice cushion. Sorry!? I would suggest that you contact Yekutiel at ID Jewelry. He has helped many posters on this site, to find beautiful stones within their budget. He will have the stone brought in and evaluate it for you. And if there's a stone on the James Allen Site that is in New York, he can get that to look at. He is very honest, easy to work with and will go out of his way to please the customer. Tell him that you were recommended by PriceScope and he will hold your hand throughout the process. I have purchased from him, he helped my nephew to find a beautiful cushion a few months ago and has helped many PS posters find a beautiful stone. You can contact him at (212) 921-9372. Give it a try - you're in good hands with Yekutiel. :wavey:

Thanks Queenie, Gypsy actually helped me a few months back and I'm getting to the point where a purchase is imminent.

Here is one of the diamonds I was looking at, although looks like it's not available any more.

What are the key characteristics to look for when buying an old mine cut/antique cushion?

Thanks again,
Mark

Did you request an ASET for the stone? It's either a very old cushion cut or a new one cut that looks old. Is this the look you want?
If so, I think you should look at some other places like Loveaffairdiamonds, jewelrybygrace, and oldworlddiamonds.
Have you checked these places out yet? You just want to make sure you get the best one out there. This one may be the best
one out there but we wont know if we dont look around some.

What is your budget? We can do a quick look around.

Edit...I did a quick look around and didnt see anything. Get an ASET image if you can.

The first one is the only one I would be interested in. It's got some leakage around the edge of the table.

You can compare these asets with GOG AVC (specifically cut for ideal light return).
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond-search

Also take a look at GOG's Platinum Select vintage cushions to see some more asets.

Do you have a link to the first one so we can see how the leakage looks in real life?

I curious to see the third one also if you have a link for that one. It has a lot of red except for about 3/4 of the center.
Would be nice to see how this stone reacts with movement.

Thank you for looking! I see what you're saying, the leakage on the edges of diamond 1 is concerning. I love the AVCs, I've been watching them for months and haven't seen any new inventory in my price range.

Here is diamond 1: https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/1.07-carat-i-color-si2-clarity-sku-1013639

Here is diamond 3: https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/1.01-carat-e-color-si1-clarity-sku-1013614

Let me know what you think. I've read it can take years to find the perfect cushion....I'm trying to find make a purchase within a few weeks.

Thanks again.

Have you contacted Adam at OldWorldDiamonds? By all accounts he has a lot of inventory that's not well documented on his site. Same for Grace (jewelsbygrace) and Erica (loveaffairdiamonds) and they're all old cut specialists. If I was after an antique cushion, I wouldn't be looking at James Allen as my first choice.

I dont think either of them would work for me. The first one's table looks huge (even though it's not). I think I get that impression
because of the leakage. Outside of the table is nice and bright though.

I was hoping the second stone might light up a little more as it was turned but it's not.

I think you should keep looking. As the other posters have suggestions...talk to Old World Diamond. Tell him that you are looking
for really good light return and lots of sparkle/flashes.

Yeah. No. None of those. I found a really pretty cushion with antique faceting yesterday on JA (which I posted for someone). If hitting the one carat mark isn't important to you it's a steal. It is a shallow stone (but in a good way) so it faces up the same as a one carat cushion but is a STEAL since it is not a one carat stone. https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/0.83-carat-i-color-vs2-clarity-sku-1028588 Shoot. It says not available. Now. DRAT.

Well, keep an eye on it. If whoever has it on hold (if they didn't buy it outright) doesn't buy it, it's a serious bargain.

Anyway, you can see the visual difference of that stone to those others. It was a nice find. I hope whoever gets it is happy with it. I would be. It was only $2650 bucks.

Thanks all, will reach out to the antique diamond specialists mentioned.

Thanks Gypsy - darn, yes that stone looks great and I'd be very interested in it. Please let me know if it becomes available again!

I'm back and I brought the funky bunch!!! :appl:

I ended up being able to purchase the stone from JA that Gypsy posted above. Kind of nervous, wish it was a little bigger, but excited to see it in person.

Thanks to all. Now to find a setting for it..............

So, how does the wearer want it set?

It's a lovely stone and since it was SUCH a steal on price we can get a really nice setting to show it off to perfection.

Also diamonds look MUCH smaller unset than they do set. Like TINY. Seriously.

Agreed, I definitely have more room to spend on the setting now. A micropave halo was requested but definitely open to suggestions to make it, as you said, shown to perfection :).

I was hoping you'd say halo in this case.

What is the budget and where are you?

Does she have a Pinterest page.

Max budget is $3k and I'm in Northern Virginia. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'd prefer something that isn't extremely high off the finger, she works with her hands and I know it will get banged around a bit.

Thanks again,
Mark

Call IDJ and David Klass. HW style halo is what you want. Delicate and with a 1/2 point halo. Get quotes. Platinum is best.

Ok will do, thank you! How does that process usually work? I would mail them my diamond? Kind of nervous doing that. Was thinking of going to some jewelers in DC, seeing what they have and get it set.

Thanks again

FYI Here's the ASET image. Leakage in the bottom corners but loving the brightness in the center. Can't wait to see it in person

That's a very nice ASET for that style stone. I can't wait till you get it either!

Another nice jeweler in your area is called the Jewel Box (???). They are in DC. Before I got engaged I used to day dream in front of their displays and drool.
