Hi all, you all seem to be uber friendly and helpful so thought it was worth an ask! I'm hoping to propose to my girlfriend soon and have found what I think is the perfect ring:

For reasons of longevity (and cost!) ideally I could find it in palladium, platinum is a bit pricey for me at the moment and money saved this way would be spent on the diamond. She really wants it to be quite hard wearing so isn't overly keen on white gold. Can anyone recommend anywhere or some sites wort trying? It seems to be a minefield.

Thanks in advance from sunny Scotland for all your help.

If she wants it to be hard wearing, that would not be a good setting to choose. You need to protect the stone more than that. I'd consider a bezel or semi-bezel at least. I agree that Sholdt is a high quality choice for a contemporary setting and a much better choice than the one you saw at JA. I am assuming she has shown you styles like this that she likes? If not, I'd set the diamond in a plain solitaire for the proposal and let her have input into her setting.
