As the title states I am looking for something around 1 CT and have searched around and am still scared about BlueNile even though their prices tend to be a little better (relatively)...

This is what I have found so far and would like a little help with an HCA as I think it would be a solid buy. Any help is appreciated.

Re: Help w/ HCA

I am coming up w/ a score of 1.5.

I guess I am just trying to make sure I am on the right track here with a quality stone for the money. Increasing the color really makes it go up about another $2k for the stone to around $9-$10k

One more that I found that is well under budget is:

I have a couple of questions for you! What are you looking for?

Size?
Color?
Clarity?
As you probably know, don't compromise on cut!
Is $10,000 total budget for stone and setting?

The 2 stones you have posted are varying in size, which makes the cost change dramatically, as does the color.

Looks like your on the right track. These branded cuts with ags000 ratings don't need an HCA run though. Ags000 means its already s good performer.

What's your entire budget and what were you hoping to get out of it?

For everything, setting included, trying to keep it between $10-12k with a little room to move up if I have to...

I am looking for the following:

shape - round
size - 1 CT (again flexible if necessary +/- 0.20)
color - F - I (would like stay closer to an F if possible)
clarity VS1-VS2 (an eye clean SI would work as well)
cut - would like an AGS000

Keep in mind a platinum setting as part of the budget.

Do you have a specific setting in mind? If so, from which vendor? It's recommended that you stick with the same vendor for both setting and stone, it makes insurance matters a whole lot easier.

Do you mind fluorescence? If you don't, it opens the search up a little more and you might be able to get a bigger stone for cheaper

So i understand the concern with shopping off BN, but another option is JA, they often have reasonable prices, and beautiful stones.

not H and A but looks nice with those fat arrows

Are Whiteflash's loose diamond prices on the higher end for online sales?

branded hearts and arrows stones are more expensive than say your average AGS000 or GIA XXX. Now some people are willing to pay that premium, others arent. As an AGS000 or a GIAXX will often be comparable in performance to the naked eye.

hearts and arrows have to do with symmetry, thats all. Symmetry of course contributes to the cut of the stone, but stones can have very good symm without meeting H&A standards.

Would I be able to make the assumption since H&A's have symmetry that they appear larger than they actually are in the setting?

not necessarily

a well cut H&A stone verses a non branded AGS000 with the same mm size will look the same. the tick over to H&A symmetry will not make the stone look larger.

it is said a poorly cut stone will look smaller for a few reasons, it can be cut too deep making a 1 ct have the mm size of a well cut .8 ct, or the brilliance and performance of the stone doesnt go from edge to edge, making the visually less brilliant at the edges. But no, a stone within ideal range and a good ASET and fit within good angles? no, it wont look smaller than a H&A

high demand for 1 ct diamonds and almost 1 ct diamonds. Yes it is significantly smaller if you compare them side by side.

You might look at .9s if you want to save some money. They're not quite the deal that .8s are but you avoid the 1 ct markup.

Another option is there are some 1 cts that are a little deep that are cut to hit the 1 ct mark but have a diameter around 6.3-6.4, a little shy of the standard for 1 ct. these can be a good price if you want to say it is a full carat.

Brian Gavin Blue or BG Blue?

I have also been researching his Blue diamonds and do they show to the naked eye any blue tint or is it strictly when held under blacklight?

In most viewing conditions you wouldn't notice it. Its only under UV light that it has an effect. Now that does not mean only blacklight. The ain, for example, is a UV light. So outdoors it has an effect, oyou know, sunlight in general. Rarely does it make the stone look BLUE at that point, just a bit whiter. Its a phenomenon many on her like and consider a positive.

What is your budget again and what are you trying to do with it? People here like searching for stones and can help you find one in budget.

Whiteflash, brian Gavin, James Allen, good old gold, are all good places to start.

Budget for the stone alone is $8k give or take $1k
