I''ve had my rings custom made to match any design with Fred Cuellar at Diamond Cutters Intl. He''s done a perfect job with 4 rings for me so far.

I think I have decided to go with this ring:

Can you help me find the best possible diamond to match from their selection?

My budget seems to be on the rise. :)

I am trying to keep the whole thing at around ~3500.00. That leaves ~$1500.00 for the diamond.

Thanks so much for all your help.

I am finding it hard to decide how to balance the four "C"'s.

Bump for ^^^

Any help with this?

ussd..it looks like you are going to need a certain size stone to look propotionate to the side pears. i''m not sure $1500 will get you there..I would suggest spending less on a setting and putting more $ into the stone..

Do you really think so?

The pears are .17 carat. I would think that a .5 carat would work out nicely.

Could you give me more info?

Anyone else?

Did you ask WF? They would be able to tell you for sure. I couldn''t get any info on the center stone size requirement off their site. My guess is the .17 pears with a .5 center are going to look close to the same size with the pears looking a little smaller. it will not look like the picture.

Ussd,

That setting is beautiful! Have you asked WF if they'll make it in white gold? The setting is probably so pricey because it's in platinum. If they'll make it in WG, i'm sure you'd be able to bump up your diamond budget to around 2k.

I agree.
With your budget - White gold is the way to go.

Scintillating...

Thanks for all the replies.

The people at WF seem to think the ring will look great with a .5. They say they''ve done it many times before. Of course, they''re trying to sell me the ring.

I inquired about white gold but they thought that the ring would lose some of the intricate design over the years.

Finally, my girlfriend has tiny hands and does not want a large diamond. When we were window shopping she thought the .5 carat looked too big. I guess that''s why I love her.

Mrssalvo -- I too didn''t think the .5 would look right with the pears until I came across the other thread.

You all are so awesome. Thanks again.

Okay, I swear, LAST QUESTION...

I spoke with WF and they can make the ring I mentioned above with round side stones instead of pear. This would be closer to the ring that my gf liked from the first post in this thread. It would be a custom so I wouldn't really get to see a pic of it up front.

Imagine this:

with round .17 carat aca side stones.

What do you think? It also reduces the price on the setting by ~$150.00.

A little bit extra that I could put into the .5 carat center stone.

Please advise...

I love it with the pears, but you know your GF and if you think she''d like rounds better then get the rounds

Ok well, I'd keep the pears - because wit them the 'trio' of diamonds would come closer to span the finger. Also, with different shape of the sides the center diamond should stand out more - IMO at least.

Ussd,

I''d probably choose all rounds too. If it''s what your gf would prefer, don''t think twice! It''s probably what I''d prefer too.

Now I''m really torn. Any other thoughts???

Too bad there isn''t an example with round sides... IMO, the pears would look larger and fit nicely with the tappered shank. But an aparently closely related version with rounds (below) doesn''t look half bad either.

This may not be helping much... both look rather safer bets and definitely classic.

I once had a 3-stone ring with a .90 carat center and .10 sidestones and it looked okay, but I still thought the sidestones were too big for my center stone (they all sort of blended together). Needless to say, I ended up changing my setting quickly thereafter. I would go with the pear sidestones!!! It will look more proportionate and the center stone will just stand out more, in my opinion. It will look divine!

BTW, the 3-stone ring that was just posted looks much different (proportion-wise) than your ring would look with .17 sidestones. Those sidestones (in the pic) are MUCH smaller in comparison to that big honkin'' center stone. (Like .10 sidestones to a 2-carat center stone). Just a thought to consider.

My vote is for all rounds :)

Carrie

can WF send you a pic of the ring done with a .5 center and round sides? that might help make your decision. I do the the pear sides would spread the finger more.

I vote for all rounds too, but I am bias because I have a 3 stones ering. The pear sidestones are something that not everyone like. Have you two really look at rings with pear sidestones together? Since the ring she like has 3 round stones, then get her the ring with all round cuz you know she like that for sure.

Hi USSD,

Before I give you my personal opinion, I would like to ask a question.

What kind of wedding band is going to be going with this ring? Or going with the 3 stone round ring?

My answer would depend on the above question.

I feel sometimes the wedding band is just an after thought and sometimes either is hard to find, or doens't fit, and their will be wear and tear on the two rings rubbing.

I personally like the the look of the ring w/ pear sidestones.

The shape makes the center stone have definition and stands out, yet has a nice flow to it. I think the detailing of this ring is of course is gorgeous. I think the pears add a bit of classical woman to the setting.

I see so many 3 stone round and 3 stone princess settings, that this is so elegant and refreshing for a change. I am not saying that the others aren't pretty, it's just ... the pears give a more unique flavor and feeling to the look of the ring that is pleasing to my eye. I think the the pears are definately feminine (like a woman's body) and paired up with the detail and engraving .... MMmmm... what a combination!
30.gif

But of course, you need to get what your FW would like. Has she seen any 3 stone rings that have pears? I wouldn't rule them out, until you some how find out if she likes this style.

And don't forget about the wedding band ... will this be made by WF to match? I think if the wedding ring was made to fit and matched the look of either, it will be stunning.

Keep us updated and best wishes to you!

ETA: I love rings that taper in ...

Mrs. Darlin Joy:

What great comments/suggestions! I agree with everything you said...100%. I do think 3-stone rings with all rounds are very common, and I like the curviness and uniqueness of the pears. Yum!

I love pear side stones but am biased, see my avatar. But if your GF prefers rounds then it''s easy, go with rounds. I think it will be stunning!!!

Thanks for all the replies. I''m leaning towards the pears now.

Can anyone point out some nice ~.5 diamonds from WF that can be had for ~$1500.00?

That is all I need to complete the puzzle.

Thanks again.
