Help! Thoughts on Custom Design vs. WF Halo Bezel Setting :)

Hi PSers,

The search is on for my perfect engagement ring setting! I'd love to hear everyone's opinions!

I'm considering a custom Whiteflash design in platinum but I am a little bit reserved because I don't have just one inspiration photo and I don't want the final product to look like the Mr. Potato Head of rings. The design would be similar to this ring, but with a plain rounded shank and milgrain around the bezel, halo and side details.

I've only heard great things about WF so I'm sure it is a wonderful ring. My reservation with this setting is that the lack of metal under the diamond seems a bit bare to me. I'm concerned about the stability of the ring (I have a pretty active lifestyle) and also the comfort of the side stones.

Which ring do you prefer? Does anyone have a WF custom design? Did it turn out just the way you wanted it? Does anyone have the WF Halo Bezel? What are your thoughts on the comfort and durability? Does anyone have any other halo bezel setting suggestions?

Buying a ring without seeing it in person is a little bit daunting so I would appreciate any words of wisdom! THANK YOU!

The first custom project I ever did that was big was through WF. I had a double halo made for my FLY. Since then I have done many other custom projects so I will say this, WF has AMAZING customer service. I loved working with Vera and Jen.
-They did everything I asked of them plus more. But with that said I don't love the ring. I think while WF does somethings very nicely, pave via the CAD/ CAST method is really only great though ERD and Grace/ Erica. I have pave rings through those vendors that I think are leaps and bounds better then WF. They costs a bit more then WF but to me the difference in quality accounts for it. I would go back to WF for straight forward items or preset studs etc but if you are looking for better quality vendors who have done the halos you have posted I really would go with one of them. Due to the design you picked out ERD would actually be the top of my list as they do very elegant petals in their baskets.

I am starting this with letting you know this is only my opinion and I have been wearing an engagement ring for 29 years. i prefer to highlight the stone and I feel hat it looks more like a right hand ring then an ering that shows a special center stone. I prefer a more traditional halo with pave stones. Just want to be sure that you try this setting on and be sure it is going to be comfortable wearing daily for the next 28-40 years. It is plenty sturdy as the bezel will protect the center stone but if you are so active I think that the disc is too far out and looks sort of like a discus ?///

Thank you so much for the opinions and advice! I will check out ERD, and it's nice to have that recommendation from something with multiple custom pieces! Also, I do want something comfortable because I will be wearing it for many years!

I would prefer to not do a custom ring and save a bit of time and money. With the custom details aside, what do you all think of the Whiteflash Halo Bezel setting?

You might also want to consider Beverley K who makes designs very similar to your first example (Pearlman's and Good Old Gold carry BK). I think the halo is too wide in proportion to the center stone on the first ring.

ERD did my ring which is very similar to what you're looking for. A Bev K ring was my initial inspiration with lots of tweaking.

You are most welcome! Singlestone is expensive, but they do a beautiful job with that particular style ring. That is a setting picture I have saved because I'd love to have something set in it eventually (or cushion shape).

I totally agree with this. It's too large around that stone and it appears to have no tilt to it. Makes the ring look more like a flat, large saucer to me. Definitely keep the stone/halo in proportion. There are lots of very lovely halo designs; DS has given you a few good ones for starters. Don't mean to discourage you so early in the game - you'll find exactly what you want but it might take a bit of time and searching!

MissGotRocks, I appreciate your comments! I'm a newbie here and pretty clueless but this is a huge purchase and I want to get it right!

Laila619 thank you for sending that link! I really love the clean lines of the WF setting. And woah winelover23's ring has serious bling, I would have never guessed her center stone was a J.

I'll likely be getting a J color center stone as well, somewhere around 1.2 carats. I'd love to get the diamond and setting in the same place, but obviously getting the right diamond and the perfect setting is more important.

If you are price sensative I'm not sure Singlestone is where you want to go. They do stunning work but charge for it. Halos through them start at 5k.

If you are trying to stick to a budget have you seen some of the Gabriel and Co halos? They are similar to the ones you posted. You can view them at IDJ online but GOG also sells that line.

Beverly K. They have a VERY reasonable customization fee so you can take one of their existing designs and tweak it to you fancy.

Thanks Gypsy, that's really helpful to know that you can easily make Beverly K modifications.

I contacted Chris at ERD today for a quote, for I'm waiting for that. I am still very open to not going the custom route so any setting suggestions are welcome and appreciated! Thank you!

Thanks again for everyone's advice on my soon-to-be engagement ring setting! It seems like my best bet is to continue on with the custom design process with Chris at ERD. This Singlestone setting is my inspiration photo - thanks diamondseeker2006!

What gallery do you think would look good with this ring? Ideally, I'd like the wedding ring to sit flush.
