Hello again Pricescopers,

This is a follow up to a thread a couple weeks back. I took the advice of some wise PSers and decided to have a solitaire made first before choosing which size eternity to pair with it.

I have the CADs back for the solitaire and would like your thoughts. The center stone is 1.4 carats. I took the elements that I liked of several different common ring designs and combined them into one ring. I know it's a pretty simple design but would like to make sure I'm not overlooking anything. I would also welcome suggestions on any changes that could make the design "better".

I plan on pairing the ring with an eternity so the diamonds on the bridge will be inset a bit to prevent rubbing. Once I have the ring I plan on trying on various size eternity rings to determine the best match.

The ring is designed to be more of a rounded comfort fit. I'm hoping that it will be easier to get on and off over my knuckles. The melee are 1pt on the basket and around 1.3pt on the bridge. They will do hand milgrain around the diamonds (hard to see in CAD)

Questions...

Prongs: Obviously larger in the CAD than would appear in finished product. Plan on single claw prong. Are the prongs too round? Should they be more flat? Something seems "off" to me but not sure what it is.

Shank: The shank right now is 3mm with the understanding it can be easily thinned. I'm thinking 2.5mm? Also, should the cathedral part of the shank narrow as it approaches the head? I don't want the ring to be too narrow but considering that I want the largest eternity that will look good I'm thinking that 3mm might be too wide...

Height: Right now it looks like the height from the bottom of the bridge to the top of the cross bars is 6.67mm. Diamond would then be set just above the cross bars. Is that setting the diamond too high? I know it's a magnified image but I'm not sure if I need to change things to get the diamond to sit lower. The bridge is 2mm high so that an eternity will sit flush with the ring and not rub on the prongs.

Thank you for any advice!

I'm not an expert by any means and can offer limited help. However, I agree that something seems "off" with the prongs - it could just be the way that they appear in the CADs.
I wish you the best of luck on your project and I'm sure that your ring will turn out gorgeous :)

Thanks momhappy! Anyone else care to share thoughts? I'm thinking the outside of the prongs need to be more flat. Also wondering if they would look better if they were wider at the bottom and thinner at the top? Also thinking about making the shank 2.5 mm and gradually tapering to 1.8mm towards the head...

You were looking for a substantial eternity ~ around 10pointers if I recall correctly? With that in mind IMO the CAD is fantastically designed.

I much prefer that rings be at least as wide as they are deep (high off the finger vertically). I also prefer that adjacent rings be similar in depth (height off the finger). In your case the shank *must* be deeper-than-your-average-PS-ring to accommodate a large eternity, because larger stones = higher off the finger, so I wouldn't recommend narrowing the shank.

I think the taper is an interesting idea for a couple of reasons - first is that it'll inherently protect the bridge, and second that it'll create a small airspace that would help delineate centerstone and eternity... diamond height is largely a function of setting, not how it looks in the CAD, but again I wouldn't advise telling the bench "as low as possible" because higher-set diamonds do look slightly bigger and do stand out more, and the surface to which you're comparing height isn't your finger - it's the height of the shank and the eternity adjacent :sun:

Thanks Yssie. Yes, I was looking at possibly getting a 10pt eternity band. It depends on how they look together. I understand that the bridge needs to be higher to accommodate an eternity so that the rings don't wear against each other. I was interested in a half bezel eternity because the bezel would give a tiny gap. I want the rings to look like two distinct pieces...not too matchy. Do you think the width of the ring (not depth off finger) being 3mm is too wide?
