Hi,

I'm trying to buy this stone for $16,000, I was wondering if somebody could provide me with some feedback on whether this is a fair price and if you think this would be a good stone with good fire/brilliance/light return.

Any help would be much appreciated, thank you!

It seems like a fair price from the comparisons (via the PS search tool). However, for some reason the image looks somewhat milky and hazy. It might just be the lighting, but I'd ask for IS/ASET images to confirm performance.

While doing your research there are two things to be mindful of.

One is GIA’s practice of rounding average numbers. So in a case where averages (example) are 40.6 PA and 36.0 CA, the true numbers could be 40.5-40.7 paired with 35.8-36.2. The implications cross a couple of thresholds. For example, HCA score could be anywhere from 2-3. And AGS light performance ranges from predictions of AGS0 to AGS3.

The second is more detailed, but matters to many here. Inside every facet-group number there are 8-16 measurements. So even if you know the true averages for a GIA graded diamond, the benefits or deficits due to 3D optical precision cannot be known without more information. Especially since there are 16 facets on the diamond which don’t even have an average number reported.

An ideal-scope or ASET photo would go a long way in determining more for any diamond. But even then, flat 2D photos don’t represent what is happening in 3D. Do you have the ability to get an ideal-scope or ASET image for diamonds you’re considering first, and then can you arrange to see those in-person - next to known performers if possible?
