Help on E-Ring: 1-1.5ct Oval Halo Pave

So I've received quotes from both VC and MH. MH is about 75% of the VC quote...but I'm having a tough time talking myself into it after seeing all of the gorgeous work VC has done. For this style of setting, and knowing that I like a more modern look, am I correct in saying that my money will be well spent with Victor?

I appreciate the feedback on the donut and single cut pave. If money were not the deciding factor, would single cut be most people's preference? Or does full cut just tend to work better with a shape such as an oval?

I am definitely going to get a quote from Victor to add the birthstones. Perhaps removing the pave from the donut or the wires would make up the difference?

You will not regret working with Victor. He works very precise and he is a true master of pave. But people here have good experiences with MH too.

In general I find that single cuts combine best with old cut diamonds. And full cuts combine nicely with modern cut stones. You could also ask the jeweller to make a revommendation.

In the case of Nymphetamines rings, you see that the rings fit flush. If there is a (bigger) donut, it creates a small space. It's very personal what option people prefer.

I would not have pave added on the gallery or donut as it might get damaged if a wedding ring will be added. You can ask Victor what the costs are. I read one case that a birthstone could not be found that was small enough (that was with SK). You can also choose symbolic stones instead of actual birthstones, for example two tiny diamonds or two sapphires (in two colors for example). It's a nice personal touch but I would indeed not spend to much.

I would just ask Victor for the price of adding two stones in the shank.

This thread might be helpful as a lot of Emilya's are posted: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/post-your-victor-canera-beauties-here.175281/page-3

Steven is great. I used him for my halo re-do. Here's my thread. https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-steven-kirsch-halo-re-set-is-here.158813/

He's not warm and cuddly, but he's professional and provides excellent customer service.

I would recommend him and have to my close friends, who have used him happily as well. But you have to go with who you feel comfortable with.

Maytal Hannah is another vendor recommended on here.

I personally wouldn't go with single cuts on an oval halo. Not worth the extra money.

The gallery you linked to is nice. It's similar to the Tiffany Legacy gallery. I'm not a fan of pave on the gallery wires personally, it's just more stones to lose, IMO.

I would ask for a ring that allows a band to sit with a minimum gap (small donut or no donut).

Is the minimal gap a comfort thing? I would imagine the setting would still be plenty sturdy without a donut if I'm going with cathedral style, correct?

One other small detail I just came across and thought was very unique was the secret stones found here: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/2-04-mrb-in-vc-emilya-halo.193131/
Is this popular? I can't seem to find many other examples of it, just thought it's a nice unique touch.

Hello!
I recently had my MRB re-set into the VC Emilya. I also had the surprise birth stones incorporated into the shank (diamond and sapphire)..the cost was very minimal so definitely ask. Here is my thread, you can see the stones in one of the pictures.

I also went for full cute melee, from what I read that is what would go best with my MRB. Other then that I left all the details up to Victor. So unless you are dead set on a different design element I would let him do what he is best at. I do remember a thread with a cathedral shank Emilya he did which was beautiful as well. Good luck!

What's the thought behind using two small diamonds or sapphires?

In speaking with Victor he said that my birthstone (Emerald) would not be doable as it is too soft. Should I go with two diamonds or sapphires or just forgo the whole idea? I really thought it would be a nice unique touch, kind of bummed that I can't do it.

you could do just one, her birthstone, if you wanted to do it

Did you get a quote from ERD?

I think you made a great choice in saving money on the stone so you can spare more money for the setting you want.

Here is my Maytal Hannah halo although with a cushion.

If you go to her facebook page, you will find a lot more pictures of other halos she has done. She is very well verse in them as well if you want to save some more money.

To be honest I feel like I'm leaning towards using Victor, just based on all his experience with this style. That being said, the pave halos I've seen from MH are remarkable as well. I'm really not sure how to make the final decision...

You could do her birthstone and a green stone (green tourmaline?) or a white diamond as a symbol for you?
But I would first concentrate on choosing the vendor that feels best for you.

Here is a thread with the Emilya with cathedral shank:https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/custom-victor-canera-emilya.195919/

And some pics (2 different rings)

I completely agree that picking a vendor is definitely the priority. I'm really torn on this. I feel like I've seen just about every image of both designers that's available. Victors rings are absolute beautiful, yet Maytal's might give a more unique touch.

Has anyone seen either of their pieces in person and can speak to choosing one in particular? Is Victor's work worth the premium?

I think you feel comfortable with Victor, then that's what you should go with. I'm a big advocate for going with your gut. I've ignored mine to my detriment in the past.

The good thing is there is no wrong choice. No matter which vendor you chose you will get a gorgeous product.

I think the Victor halo with the cathedral is going to be just right with your gorgeous oval.

Charmypoo, are you happy with the work you received from Maytal? I feel like going with Victor for this style is the right choice, but Maytal has been great to deal with through email so far. What would you suggest?

Have you been able to come to a conclusion?

Yes I have, I am moving forward with VC. hopefully I have something to post in a few weeks!

Can't wait to see it.

Make sure there is no pave on the donut. It will scratch the wedding band.

That's really good news! You will find that it's a real pleasure to work with Victor. He is always patient and responsive. I am looking forward to see the outcome.

That was one of my first requests after doing some reading here!

Can anyone who has worked with VC before speak to how long these projects usually take? I was quoted 3-4 weeks.

3-4 weeks is reasonable for a ring especially created for you. It all depends on the complexity of the design but also the number of clients Victor has. He usually works fast and I've noticed that people get their ring earlier then expected. But he might be busy with other projects currently.

I would not worry about it since it's a handforged ring.

So it seems as though Victor is having trouble sourcing stones for the hidden birthstones in the shank. He cannot find a small enough Emerald, Green Tourmaline, or Purple Alexandrite. I'm beginning to fear that this will not be doable after all.

Can anyone who has done hidden/surprise stones before offer any advice? I don't necessarily care what kind of gem is used as long as it represents our birthstones (Emerald and Alexandrite). I hope I can make this work somehow as I feel like it would be a nice special touch for her.

Can you forgo the stones and just have something nice engraved?

Hmm I hadn't considered that. What are some examples of things to engrave?

Anything personal. Something that reminds you of her or her of you.

Personal example: my husband have a lot of connections to Wes Anderson in different stages in our relationship so I was going to engrave "this is an adventure" in his ring. Then he got a ring hat couldn't be engraved but whatever.

Just thought I'd share the finished product! Thank you all for your help.

The ring is beautiful!!!! Do you have handshots?
Victor did a great job.

That is gorgeous! She will be thrilled! Please post a thread in SMTB after you propose with hand shots.

Wow, it's beautiful!!! And fast!

Sorry, no handshots yet. As soon as I propose I will make sure to post them.

Thank you for all the advice gained here and thank you to ForteKitty for the stone. I definitely feel like I ended up with a great overall value by going this route.

Wow! It turned out gorgeous.
