Hi all,

Time for me to really strap down and buy this ring I've been planning on getting. I know my girlfriend likes a Radiant cut with either pear or trilliant side stones as the setting.

In terms of the shape of the diamond, a radiant cut closer to a square would be preferable over the traditional rectangle. Of course this has made my search slightly harder in terms of finding a diamond at some of my local jewelers, but I want to consider all my options for purchasing this engagement ring. Is purchasing loose diamonds online a good idea? Am I better of getting everything through a local jeweler? How about buying the ring as a whole through an online merchant?

My budget is around 7 - 8k total. The band would be white gold and I would prefer a diamond that has great clarity.

One diamond I've been looking at is http://www.b2cjewels.com/dd-3858668-1.05-carat-Radiant-diamond-G-color-VS2-clarity.aspx

I'm not sure how close that is to a square based on the dimensions, but I wanted your opinions on the diamond itself and the quality.

Look forward to hearing all your suggestions and opinions, any help is greatly appreciated.

You cant buy a radiant cut without pictures. Stick to somewhere like
James Allen so you can look at the faceting pattern. You can also request
up to 3 aset images from JA to check on the light return.
