So long story short, I went through a divorce (sad as divorces are, but not messy. I have good memories from the relationship, and the divorce was for the best). I had Brian Gavin recut my stone to achieve ideal cut (it was ExExEx before but not ideal...large table), and get rid of the bad juju so I could enjoy the stone and the memories in the form of a pendant. After 9 months, the recut is done and I got an email saying that the stone was cut to Brian's strict Signature Hearts and Arrows proportions, and I could make it a Brian Gavin Signature diamond for $1000. As a Brian Gavin Signature diamond it comes with the added benefits of the lifetime upgrade policy, where I could trade up and get today's retail value applied to the new purchase. The current retail value he quoted me for my stone is $8,536 (we went down in carat from 1.25 to 1.09, but up in cut and clarity. I believe the stone was purchased for $6,000 about 6 years ago).
SO here's my conundrum: $1000 is not pocket change, and while it sounds nice to be able to upgrade later, 1ct is almost too big for my taste in a pendant so I wouldn't want to upgrade to a bigger pendant for me. If I get remarried down the road, while it would be nice to be able to use that stone to fund a bigger rock for an e-ring, I feel like it would be weird to involve the stone from a previous marriage in that transaction.
What do you think? Would I be stupid to not get the diamond BG Signature certified/engraved and get the upgrade policy, or is it not worth the money? I'm still getting the ASG certification. I just don't want to have fear of missing out.
