Help: Need direction

Hi All,

I am new here and am in the veerrryyyyy preliminary stages of upgrading my engagement ring. Right now, I am just trying to figure out what specs I should be looking for in choosing a diamond. I know all about the 4 C's but I mean in a way to maximize bang for buck

I am looking for something anywhere in the range of 1.3 (small end of things) to 1.7 (pushing the high end for me). I am size 4.5 but also have very small hands and refined, simple taste, so I don't want to get too big. I am not sure what kind of setting I will put it in but most likely a simple classic style. I personally (as does my husband who is verryyyy conservative) prefer high quality over size, however I don't feel the need for flawless stones, since I think practically speaking it won't make a difference to me.

Any advice on how I should proceed/what I should look for?

I am very new here, but a diamond lover for 40 years (or longer) from what I have learned here is to read all the information on diamonds.. I went to Good Old Gold (they call is GOG and watch many of the tapes, the gentleman who is the owner/speaker I think is awesome and easy to follow.. once you get an idea of pricing, color, CUT!! you shop around the various vendors - this site has about 6 and I am sure others will recomend possibly different vendors.. then you post here again! and ask all the people what they think! I am looking forward to the day I can reset AGAIN.. !

Welcome to Pricescope, I would start by looking at AGS and GIA graded diamonds at a local jewelry store. Then you can better determine what color and clarity, what size and shape you prefer and try on settings. Sometimes what you think beforehand does not look as you expect. I would suggest that you do as much research as possible, on diamonds and on settings. I found it very helpful to cruise through the show me the bling forum for ideas. Yes, GOG has many wonderful videos. A real good place to start. Don't compromise on cut, that's what gives diamonds their sparkle and beauty.
