Hi all

First time poster long time lurker. I was looking for an ideal cut princess diamon around 2ct then came across a 2.5ct for a similar price. Thoughts? Do you get more carat just because of the colour differential (which if I understand correctly, wouldn’t be noticeable unless they were next to each other)?

Many thanks!

Of the '4 Cs', 'Cut' is most important on this board, so it's good to see you are looking at Ideal Cut stones :)

That leaves Colour, Clarity and Carat Weight. If you image a round cake or a Pie Chart made up of those three elements, you can see that if you spend more on one element (have that element as a bigger portion of the cake) there is less available for the other two elements.

You can therefore see how it is a balancing act between the three elements. :)

For example, if you want size (Carat Weight) more than Colour or Clarity, that means you have to reduce the latter two portions of cake to give more portion size to Carat - which means that you can get a bigger stone with the same budget but it will be lower colour and lower clarity.

On the opposite end of the scale, you might want D colour and Flawless clarity - but that costs so much there is only a small portion of cake/budget left to put towards Carat Weight (i.e. size), so it will be a much smaller stone!

And if you want higher colour, higher clarity, AND more carat weight (size)..?. Well... you better be prepared to spend more for a bigger cake!
