I've been looking for a unique setting for an E-ring. I wanted a smaller center stone (~.5 carat) in an intricate setting with a vintage feel, in rose gold

Found this and was in love: http://mdcdiamonds.com/engagementdetails.cfm?Stock=ES935BRWG&Country=US

until I started lurking PriceScope...Doesn't seem like MDC diamonds has a very good reputation around here. Is it just their Ebay business that is sketchy or should I avoid their settings all together? Has anyone had a problem with their workmanship?

Any advice you can give me would be much appreciated! I'm completely new to this

Thanks in advance!

Looking at the stats: color, white. ....tells you nothing. You have no idea what you are really getting. I would wants stats on my ering.

I had a similar intricate ring replicated by etsy's DanielM -- seeing as there is probably copyright on this design, you'd have to change a few things. If this is the ring of your dreams and one that you'll be wearing for a long time, I'd want to know all the stats. Best bet if you can't find one "ready made" is custom made.

Do you already have the center stone?

I wouldn't buy a ring that said "average color: white, average clarity: eye clean."

I don't have a center stone yet, no.

If MDC would provide me w/ more specific stats for the setting, then would you do it? I'm so torn! It's going to be "custom" through MDC as it will be in rose gold and I'd asked to have the center stone bezel-set instead of prong-set...

I've never purchased jewelry before, so I'm completely clueless  Do you think I would be able to find someone to make something similar for around the same price?

I would want a warranty on all workmanship and pave for life and a full return policy, no questions asked for at least 7 days. And if it doesn't appraise out by an independent appraiser, you get to return it for a full refund.

It's not custom if someone is making something to order out a set catalog. That's made to order. And I expect a return policy on made to order, no questions.

And white and eyeclean best mean "GIA Standards" no lower than I color, no lower than SI1, or better. And no black carbon.

But honestly, I wouldn't take the risk.

With all of that pave, I'd make sure that you're getting a reputable bench to do the work. I've heard too many horror stories about people getting rings with shoddy craftsmanship and having diamonds falling out all over the place.

Thanks for all of your advice - as sad as it makes me :cheeky:

Can anyone give me recommendations for where to go next?
