Help finding the right setting

Hey everyone,

I posted in the colored stone forum but thought you all may be able to help as well. I recently purchased a round cut purple sapphire to use as the main stone on an engagement ring. I'm now focused on finding a setting similar to the Princess Diana/Kate Middleton ring, only round instead of oval (as that is the style I've been told to look for by my girlfriend's sister). My questions are:

Will a jewelry store be ok with setting a stone if I don't really purchase anything from them? If so, what is the price range I'm looking at?

Does anyone have any suggestions on places to find such a setting online? I'm not entirely sure how to search for a setting without a main stone in it.

Does the size of the stone matter, or will any "round cut" setting be ok? I'm worried I'll purchase something that my stone won't fit in.

Stone stats are: 2.21 carats, 7.76 x 7.81 x 4.68mm, if that makes a difference.

Thanks for your help!

Post a picture of the exact setting you want. Do you just want a halo, or are there more details.

The setting style you want can run anywhere from 1500 to 5500 depending on details, metal and construction.

Thanks for the reply! I've attached photos of the style I'm looking at. For me, it's just been tough to find out how to search for just the setting without a stone. I'm also not sure what parameters I need to look for (for example, I know I need to find a setting for a round cut but does that mean I also need to specify the exact size of the sapphire or can that be adjusted when the stone is set?)

It will have to be custom made, you arent likely to find anything like that ready to go because it isn't a very popular design right now.

You are going to need to go custom. You can do CAD with that. I'd recommend BGD or ERD as they will work with colored stones. And I'm guessing you are going to be in the 3-4k range in platinum.

You can also ask ID Jewelry, call Yekutiel and see what he quotes you at.

Good thing is, no pave.

sounds fun. id go with ERD. they do wonderful custom work and dont mind if you bring your own stone to the party. plus they are more budget friendly than say going with a hand forged bench.

the coolest colored ring i ever saw was a round with large melee halo. Should be beautiful!

Thank you all very much for the help. I will definitely check out those sites you recommended. Very much appreciated.

Niel, I am with you, that is a beautiful ring.
