Help Finding Interesting Vintage/Halo Engagement Settings?

Hi y'all,

Been reading and researching for a while now. I've learned a LOT and have about 3 weeks to go before I need my beautiful wife Annie's engagement ring when we do a renew of vows ceremony on a cruise (we're a little unconventional here in Austin!). Unfortunately, more data has, in many ways, made the choices harder. Any opinions/tidbits can help!

I'm looking for that -unique- setting that will stand out:
-White gold or platinum
-Antique or vintage leaning
-Halo and/or split shank is a good way to go
-Slim crown height preferred. Annie is short and will have a size 5-5.5 ring, so a low setting will let us comfortably get a larger rock
-My total budget is around $10K, and I'm planning for around $7K to the rock
-She cares more about 'sparkle' and thinks old mine or cushion diamonds may work better because the have more faces - Not sure that I agree...

Center stone I would like to buy separately:
-Round brilliant
-Largest ct size while controlling for:
-GIA cert
-J color, or to match smaller setting stones
-SI1, or to match smaller setting stones
-depth > table, both within 2-3% of 59%

Here's an interesting one, but more diamonds on the shank would be nice:

Any thoughts or recommendations? I'll be paying attention to this post!

Re: Help Finding Interesting Vintage/Halo Engagement Setting

Sounds like fun to me! I might renew my vows more often if I got a new ring each time.

I think Gabriel and Co. is a good choice balancing quality and price. There are a million halo rings, as you have probably seen, and I think your wife absolutely HAS to pick the ring out! There are some that I LOVE, but the odds of my husband picking those out of all the choices would be slim to none!!! So PLEASE get her input!!!!

But I'll show you a few I like:

I have always really liked the Vatche Grace halo ring that is similar to the Tiffany Legacy ring:

And Beverley K has many beautiful choices as well:

You can go though www.goodoldgold.com and find a newly cut vintage style stone called an august vintage (either cushion or round) and they carry Gabriel and Co settings

OR

You can see what you can get that's already pre made by www.jewelsbyericagrace.com

This is under budget but it has an almost 1 carat OEC with a gabriel and co setting (5300.00 in total)

Re: Help Finding Interesting Vintage/Halo Engagement Setting

Since I live in Austin also, I thought I'd chime in since you only have a few weeks to do this and it's good to be able to see some things in person.

Clarksville Pottery carries VanCraeynest rings which are definitely vintage styled, being die-struck from 100 year old sies original to the company. (We'll be getting a VanCraeynest bangle band for my mix and match set and coincidentally searching for info on them is what led us to PS). You may want to call and make sure they have reopened. They moved across the parking lot from where they were and were going to be closed for a week or so. That was about 2 weeks ago.

If you like extreme antiques, Bell and Bird specialize in 18th century pieces and they have some OMC, rose cuts and other stones.

Good luck on your hunt.

Speaking of Van Craeynest (which are STUNNING btw) there is a beautiful one for sale by a PSer and it retails for 5k alone and the setting is being sold for 2k. Here is the link

Thanks for all the links...lots to review! The Van Craeynest is pretty interesting, and so are Jewels by Erica Grace.

On a side note, should I look for any drop in prices on stones just after V-Day?

Re: Help Finding Interesting Vintage/Halo Engagement Setting

I truly adore Van Craeynest, but they are far more expensive than most of the other rings listed. Think double the prices of Gabriel. And the second hand one is for a larger stone.

I do think this diamond suggestion was a great one, though. And GOG does carry both Gabriel and Beverley K:

That was certainly true in the past about VC, but lately they appear to have had some "price re-evaluations", at least from the quotes on rings we got, that are more in line with other brand name engagement and wedding ring pricing. It actually brought the bands we hope to use in to the realm of "could be" instead of just "wishing". But I do really like the look of rings from Bev K and Gabriel also.
