Looking for a round or oval diamond between 1.7 and 1.9 that is sparkly in a very simple thin band or a thin band that has some interest on the under setting. Just starting out and don't know if this is possible with a budget of $10,000. Thanks for your help!

Should be possible if you are willing to go down in colour, say to a J? The diamond you have linked will not be eye clean with so many inclusions at I1. Give the search function on the resources tab a go, see what else you can come up with!

It is too deep to be well cut.

You are more in the 1.5 J range. I'll look at a few other places though.

Enchanted diamonds has one in the 1.7 range. It's a VS2 but make sure it is eye-clean.

The first 2 links brought up ovals. Are you looking at ovals too? OK, so here is the spiel on ovals (considered a fancy cut which
is anything besides a round brilliant). You can not buy fancy cut diamonds by the numbers. You must have images to show the
faceting pattern and aset/idealscope images to show the light return. If you want to look at ovals, James Allen is a good place. Also,
Enchanted diamonds.

The third link is a round but it has a terrible cut. Here is the cheat sheet for rounds to keep more in the "ideal" cut range.

table 54-58%
depth 60-62.3%
crown 34-35 degrees
pavilion 40.6-41 (with lower crowns, shoot for higher pavilions and vice versa)

You can use the HCA tool to give you an initial cut on round brilliants. Anything that scores 2 or under is worth a farther look.
Anything over 2 we usally punt on but if it's fairly low, in the 2s, some times an aset/idealscope image will show that it's ok.

Is your GF ok with ovals? They do have a bigger look but will not sparkle as much as a round. I highly recommend you talk to
Yekutiel at ID Jewelry. He is good at finding good values...and that looks like what you are after (I'm all for that but not at the
cost of well cut stone). You are spending a lot of money so, does it have to be perfect to an expert, no, but it still needs to
look good in most light conditions and be bright and sparkly.

Yekutiel may be able to find you a large, eye-clean SI2.

I'll look on JA for some ovals but really...for your best bang...talk to Yekutiel. Tell him your budget and what you're trying to get with
it.

Yes, cut is what gives the stone it's sparkle. Color should come after well cut. There are some clarities (clouds) that can affect
sparkle but dont see it too often.

Fluorescence is rarely an issue. But if you find a stone with Very Strong Flu, you need to ask the vendor if the flu is affecting the
stone in a negative way. Flu in an H/I is fine as long as you take into account the above statement.

Some other notes...the HCA tool only works for round brilliants (not ovals)...just in case it wasnt clear.

Its great to go look at stones but make sure you are looking at well cut GIA or AGS graded stones. Other graders may be really
off (IGI, EGL, etc) so you wont be comparing apples to apples. These other stones may seem cheaper but if you had them graded
by GIA/AGS they would grade lower in color and clarity. Of course each stone has to be viewed on it's own merits. (Disclaimer )

You can definitely get the carat size you want for 10K, but you'll have to sacrifice color and clarity.. I would never skimp out on cut.

I highly recommend calling or chatting with a PS retailer. I did so with Yekutiel and he found me a great diamond. Honestly you can look through their website all day but he will find you a better one than you can. If you prefer the DIY approach whiteflash and JA are popular around here. Good Old Gold also has a great rep on PS! Just my 2 cents.. I've only been around PS for a few months!
