Hi everyone,

I am thinking about putting a deposit down on a 2.41 G SI2 (eye clean) diamond. I have done quite a bit of research but wanted to check with others before I pull the trigger to see if there is something of concern regarding the diamond or if I am overlooking something.

I also have a few questions as well that I am hoping someone can address. Please see below for the specs.

Round Brilliant
8.51 - 8.57 x 5.35
2.41
G
SI2
Very Good
Polish Excellent
Symmetry Excellent
Fluorescence Medium Blue
Table 56
Depth 62.6
Crown 36
Pavilion 40.6
culet none
medium to slightly thick

I am confused as to why the cut is a very good and not excellent, can someone elaborate or explain? Also the HCA is a 1.8 so it scores well in that regard.

Also, based on research the fluorescence should not be of a concern since it is a G color. I have looked at the stone under different lighting conditions and am not concerned about it being milky or oily.

Is there anything else based on the dimensions that should be of concern?

I am looking for as much feedback as possible. I appreciate everyone's help!

Thanks!

It's a little deep....that's probably why it got the VG...that's ok though, it doesn't mean it's a crap diamond. The HCA is good considering the size...have you seen an ideal scope image? This is the best way to find out if the stone performs well. If you can't get that, I'd suggest looking at the diamond next to a window and seeing how much white light return you get. if you have pictures, or a link, that'd be nice.

Thanks so much for the quick response! Is it more difficult to get a good score on the HCA the larger the diamond gets? How concerned should I be about light leaking out the bottom of the stone? Also according to the HCA spread and scintillation are only very good not excellent, how concerning is that? I have not seen an ideal scope image and I do not believe they have one available. I do have some pictures of it in different light conditions but I will have to get it from my friend who went shopping with me. Pictures are on her phone, didn't want my girlfriend to see the pics. I will post once I have them sent to me.

Thanks for your help and feedback! I just want to make sure I do this right and get the best possible stone and best vaule for my buck.

Thanks!

No, the size of the stone has nothing to do with the HCA score.

Your score on this stone of 1.8 is FIC not TIC. This stone will display more fire than a TIC due to the high crown angle.

Thanks MIss! I appreciate your feedback! What is more desirable FIC or TIC. Are there any major drawbacks to it being a FIC? Sorry I am not as familiar with these terms, I have not come across it much in my research up to this point.

Thanks!

Yes, the larger the stone, the less likely it'll be perfectly cut. At least compared to smaller stones. There won't be any leakage on the bottom of the stone, and even if there were, you wouldn't see it....I honestly would not be concerned with a "VG" for the cut. It scored well enough on the HCA. It will help us though, give you a better opinion if we see pictures. It's good that you got pictures of the stone in different lighting.

No, a stone with FIC angles is not better or worse than a TIC necessarily - just a matter of preference. The TIC stone will give a balance of white brightness and fire whereas the FIC will show more fire. In order to really know your preference, you'd have to see a few stones to be able to determine which speaks more to you. I do think we see more TIC stones here; they are perhaps a safer bet for some in that they are more balanced between two qualities.

If you have seen this stone in person and love it, that's the best test of all!

What are the inclusions? Did you look at the stone closely from the top and sides to see if you could see them? I'd be very careful of SI2 clarity in a stone that size. And I am not sure I'd get any stone with those angles without seeing an idealscope image to check for leakage. Normally I don't recommend going deeper than 62.3% on depth because it usually costs you some diameter, too. This may be worth buying, but you can find a better cut stone than this one. Depends on your priorities.
