Just a suggestion.... I looked back at a number of your posts and for over a year you've been struggling with your setting... Instead of trying to find a premade setting to "work" your diamond into (which is a lovely diamond BTW)....save the money and start haunting the sites like Steve Kirsh, Leon, Victor...ERD just to name a few and have a high quality setting created to your specifications. Yes, a halo would provide better coverage, of course it does and if coverage is your number two priority behind height I would move to a higher set halo setting from one of the "know" PS custom jewelers... Buying a premade setting for a diamond s crazy if your want the custom fit, no gaps, no overlap look we see here so often on the beautiful custom pieces. Just my two (maybe unwanted) cents. :read:

Mayk - thank you! Of course your cents are totally wanted!!! :wavey: I appreciate you posting and giving me your advice.
I take all of these suggestions and think about them and I really appreciate everyone's input!!! (i'm indecisive my nature! but when i find something i want , i know it - yet i haven't seen anything yet) :twirl:

Do you have any ideas for my setting???? I am totally clueless - i just can't imagine exactly what it should look like......
Please link me to any setting u think -

I don't like round stones, and mine looks cushiony from certain angles because of the chunky facets on the edges of crown(?) and I don't want to lose that effect. If i put it in a halo, i think the halo should be below the stone i guess. That's all i can come up with. HELP!

Also, if i had a custom ring made I would want the diamond set in front of me. I dont want it out of my sight and i can't insult anyone by saying that unless i know that is one of their policies (to set the diamond in front of you). I met a jeweler that would do it if i gave him dimensions of diamond. You never know it could roll of their table and oopsies you get the wrong diamond back and have no way of proving it's yours (?) Maybe i'm wrong, but i don't feel comfortable letting it out of my sight.... :errrr:

PS Did u vote ? Which setting did you choose? trellis or graduated??? or orig??
I like this one but no halo

Yes, I voted.. I liked a higher setting.

As for a halo I have a round diamond in a cushion halo because I wanted the best of both worlds. I used Adam at Sareen Jewelry in LA. (I live in Florida I shipped him my diamond.. if fact I also sent it back to him to be resized and when I bought a sapphire band and did a little damage to the basket the ering went back again to him.. so I don't have any qualms about shipping my diamond - I also sent my 1.81 Transitioinal to ERD to be set and Adam did my five stone after I purchased the five solasferas from Tim at Emma Parker Jewelry). These folks work with diamonds much larger and more valuable than yours or mine they are not going to jepordize their business, reputation, etc. on switching out your diamond. Also, if your diamond has the serial number even better or buy a loupe and study your diamond. Look at Phoenix.. she just bought a 5+ Ct and had it set by Leon..and then shipped to Singapore... so I think this may be a road block that will keep you from getting that perfect setting. So I think if you are picking Gabriel & Co., Beverly K, Vatche or any one of the custom jewelers so loved on here... or a local shop you are going to want to go custom to get the "custom look" and a nice fitting for your diamond.

First question:
do u think i should tell her to hold it and cancel the order?
Second question:
i could tell her to give me a range again , like 1 carat to like 1.2?? what do u think?

First question. Absolutely yes.

Second question. You cannot buy a cushion OR a setting for a cushion BY CARAT WEIGHT. Carat weight is meaningless with cushions. Because it does NOT correlate with dimensions. If you want THAT SETTING, you need to find out what DIMENSIONS the stone needs to be to suit that setting. So you need MEASUREMENTS, not carat weight.

So she needs to tell you if you need a 6mm x 6mm cushion. Or a 5.5mm x 5.5mm cushion. Or 6.5mm x 6.5 mm. Or 5mm x 6 mm. Or 5mm x 7mm.

OKAY? And she can give you ranges like: It can take between a 5.5-5.7 mm WIDTH and a 6.0 to 6.2mm LENGTH.

But if you are buying for a SETTING for a CUSHION you shop by MEASUREMENTS not carat weight.

Okay?

Hi Gypsy!
So the other day I saw a cushion really small and it was like 5.8mm....too small for my finger even if in halo, it's raised above the halo in prongs. so i called and got the dimensions i can fit in the basket:

7.5mm x 5.5 mm

What do u think of that? I was surprised it could be rectangular in shape considering it would fit a round or princess or cushion....??

They can probably adapt the setting to different shapes. At least... that's what I assume.

7.5 x 5.5 is extremely limiting. That's an elongated cushion (rectangle) and those are A) rare at that l/w ration and B) run the risk of bowties. And I have no clue how a setting that's an 11mm square halo is going to fit a stone of those dimensions. So you're missing something.

And see if you can get just one picture for us to post. That might clear everything up.

Finally. Diamonds look MUCH smaller unset than they do set. When you saw the 5.8 was it unset or set? Finallya halo really makes stone look larger. My 5.8 asscher looked TINY without the halo. Now it can stand next to a 6.5mm asscher without a halo and look almost the same size (just the center looks bigger, it's an optical illusion).

Hey Gypsy! I think u r right, those measurements don't sound quite right. I think I am going to find a diamond I love first. I think I should look at settings for my oec?? or get some cushion that fits in this ring and hope it's not too small. The diamond i saw was not set. boy it was small on my finger......if the halo is below the prongs, won't that show the true size vs in a halo??? I think i'll go to look at more rings and possibly stones in the next 2 mos. then i will decide which ring and what's up w/ the stone........... maybe i should get measurements again?? it fits a princess 2 carat i'm pretty sure - so based on that - how big should the cushion be to fill up the space??? :read:

hi Gypsy! I wrote u back in box above

Forget the setting (take pics of it). Save up. Buy a diamond you love FIRST. We'll work the rest out after that. And leave your current ring alone for now.

Also, if you want something that faces up big, and is low cost per carat I would advise you to consider ovals instead of cushions. They cost less per carat and face up big.

Ditto Gypsy. If the diamond is small and a halo isn't cutting it, it's time to shop for a bigger stone because there's no setting in the entire world that can make it look that much bigger while still look pretty. Save up first to buy the stone of a size that is acceptable to you.
