Hello all! I have been coming to Pricescope for the past few months. I have learned so much from you all. I am now trying to buy an oval diamond. I have 2 on reserve with Ritani that I am currently looking at. I am wondering if the depths are too shallow? What about the bowtie effect? Are these good options? ANY advice would be greatly appreciated!

of the two i prefer the I, i dont like the shape or bowtie of the first one.

Does it have to come from ritani? you can buy a loose stone and ship it to Pearlmans, if you really want a ritani setting.

No! It doesn't have to come from Ritani. I just liked a Ritani setting. I am about to look into Pearlmans now.

Is the I just ok? lol. You don't seem moved by it! Thanks so much for replying!

Thank you for helping. I have one more question...
Is there a certain length to width ratio that I should stay in? What I am compromising with a 1 carat stone that is about 8mm with a shorter width. Versus one thats about 7mm with a wider width? Thanks again!

I don't know anything about ovals, but I've been working with both Pearlman's and Ritani on my SO's partially custom engagement ring. Tell them you are a PS member and they will give you a 15% discount off of the setting only. You can also get a 2% discount on the diamond if you pay by bank wire. Basically, find a setting you like on Ritani.com, choose a metal, and then use this formula:

List price * 0.85 = Pearlman's price. Pearlman's does not offer an upgrade policy and they do not accept returns for non-stock settings, so that should be taken into consideration. They will try to work with you if you want to upgrade the stone in the future, but it isn't guaranteed.

a lot of that is personal preference, do you like a rounder oval or "roval" or a elongated oval? Personally I prefer a chubbier oval, as if i was going for "elongated", i would go for a marquise as in MHO they seem to more flattering at longer shapes, and seem to perform better than a long oval. (just from what ive seen)

Depth will make a stone look smaller than its ctw. Like, if it had a depth of 70+, itll looks smaller than other stones at the same CTW. thats what will really effect how big it looks to your eye

Oh wow! Thanks for that info! I am def gonna look into that!

may i ask what setting you were going to get? I used to have a ritani. Truth be told i might reset my marquise into one again... Very high quality. They use a great kind of white gold that doesnt need plating and doesnthave any issues with allergies. Nice to look into if you wanted a white metal

oh how pretty! i always liked that setting. should be lovely with an oval!

If you like that one from JA, they let you reserve it (for free) along with 2 others, if you find any other ones you like, they will give you ASET, and tell you which they think performs best. they Also give you a pricescope discount as well as one if you pay by wire transfer, it usually ranges from 1-5%

ETA: but i didnt see a lot of other ovals around 4k...

Ive alwas loved this stone, someone almost bought it recently, it had a nice ASET, but probably too low for what youre looking at.

Thank you so much for your help! I am going to look at some more ovals from JA. $5500 is my limit for the diamond. So hopefully I can find something nice!

I actually spoke with Ritani directly about their white gold. They alloy it with palladium, which is a hypoallergenic sister to platinum. It's also more expensive and it stays whiter than other alloys. I agree with Niel that Ritani is very high quality. I haven't owned one (yet), but I've seen plenty in person and they are all lovely.

That is very reassuring to hear. I have not seen one in person. Only pics. Glad to hear opinions from Pricescopers. Thanks.

I still even looking at the more expensive ones would personally include that G in my 3

this one has potential if its eye clean (the people at JA can tell you that )

this one has been for sale a while, a bit more cushiony.

High color and clarity, though i like to look at it at an angle slightly more than strait on.. but shell be looking at it at all angles, so might be worth it

I REALLY like the first one! Gonna try to talk to someone about that one! Thank you again!

I love that one you found. I see that it isn't GIA. Do you know the differences btw GIA and IGI?

I missed that. Good call. I wouldn't buy an IGI graded stone and shouldn't have recommended one.

Stick to GIA only for ovals. AGS would be ok but few if any ovals will have AGS certificates.
