Hi everyone,

I am new to this community. I would like help from you guys.
I saw this diamond a while ago in person at a store, it was very very stunning in my eyes. (didn't compare with other similar size ones in store)
Later went home, I looked at the HCA score, it turned out to be not ideal. The price that jeweler listed ~25k, we didn't negotiate on the price since we were not buying on the spot. I care about the sparkle and fire a lot. The low HCA score made me disappointed a bit.

To note:
This rock has a SI clarity which is not high per the scale, however there is barely anything in the rock. It's a great deal for this level of clarity. And it also has a great color E.

With a budget around 20-25k, I can hardly find a similar size rock with E color and this kind of clarity.
I definitely prefer a 2ct rock, I guess I don't mind going down to color G if the cut and sparkle is much better.
Or maybe I need to get the size down to 1.8ct to get a perfect cut/good color and clarity?

The What's your opinion??? Should I look for a better cut / sparkle???

Thank you so much for your suggestion!! Appreciate!!! :kiss2::kiss2::kiss2:

I agree - it is too deep, weight hiding in the slightly thick girdle making it face up smaller than it should and the pavilion angle is too deep. Definitely better cut stones out there!

AACCKKK....deep cut and bad angles. RUN!!!!

Not to mention, any jeweler that won't deal with you on price because you aren't making a decision on the spot isn't worthwhile in my books. That is a high pressure sale to dump his :silenced: stock on you.

This is why it's yuck...

Unless, you are super color sensitive the odds of you detecting a E and G are pretty slim.

Some more options:

2.108ct F SI1 $27,621

1.904ct G VS2 $23,743 (sweet spot, save a few bucks, stay just under the 2 carat $ premium)

Look at the mm differences among yours and the ones posted.

Excellent point. That 1.904ct G I posted is practically the same (7.91 vs 8.02mm).

FYI, @Julyisjuly you cannot start to see a size difference with the naked eye until around 0.20mm difference. The above is 0.10mm +/- difference meaning you couldn't tell them apart by size with your own eyes.

It's a shame people cut stones deep to hit those magic carat weights. :naughty: I'm just thankful you found here BEFORE purchasing the stone. Please seriously consider some of the alternates we are tossing your way.

A few more wild cards...

2.15ct H SI1, $25,116

1.87ct F SI1, $24,018

This is a good FAQ. It basically explains how color grading is different in specific relation to HPD/CBI diamonds. I have not found comparable data to see how a WF and HPD stone compare against one another. I suspect WF would be very similar, if not identical, as we all know a super ideal stone faces up more white than a non-super ideal stone. And both HPD and WF are super ideals.

Hi guys, thank you so much for these replies! YOU GUYS SAVED ME!!! ;)2 ;)2 ;)2

My hub and I we went to a Tiffany store to just compare their colors. The sales person presented a color F and a color I in front of us without telling which is which. I spotted the color correctly while my hub thought the opposite(he was wrong). Yup, I agree a lot of people can't tell the color difference.
I do care sparkle and fire on the finger more than the color. I would say I still want to keep to color G and above given the size of the rock. Thanks for the wild cards here, they are all lovely rocks, with great value.

With a simple and solid setting, try to get everything done within 25k. I will keep looking at all the alternatives you guys mentioned. Thanks a million.

More question:
I noted a lot you recommended White flash? any reason? Looks majority of in house rocks at white flash is certified by AGS rather than GIA.
Any other websites are worthy to look at too?

Whiteflash is a highly recommend vendor for good reason. AGS grading is thought tobet more strict than gia, plus they have "super ideal" ACA (a cut above) stones. Also, good upgrade policies. Brian Gavin, whiteflash, high performance dimonds are worth looking at as a starting point

@sledge...

I think we've created a monster! I'm not sure whether to be proud or to sign you up for DA (Diamonds Anonymous).

You're doing some good posts, buddy. Well done. :))

Also, when browsing online, any tips to avoid Milky diamond and these with color tinge? Thanks again!!!

Best to stick with a vendor with the stones in house. They can be analyzed and discussed on a stone by stone basis.

This. I've purchased two diamonds from BGD and both times I spoke with Brian to get his opinion on the stones I was considering. The first stone was amazing and I'm most certain its replacement will be even better.

Hi, my name is Sledge. I am a diamondholic. I want to learn more and talk more diamonds. Wait, I mean, I have a problem with diamonds. Ohhhh, did your ring sparkle? Tell me about your crown and pavilion angles! ;)2:mrgreen2:

Seriously. Thank you for the kind words. Its hard to imagine life without diamonds now. Unfortunately I think you unleashed a monster. I'd know nothing without PS and it's awesome members like you!

My girl no longer allows me to go in local diamond stores. Apparently I'm too passionate. She gets bored as I'm passed off to their gemologist and managers to talk tech details and have them bring in their finest stones in the place. Two local places tried to hire me, lol.
