Hi all,
looking into victor C and ERD/BE for a halo. not sure yet if looking for emilya type harry Winston style or a subtle split shank like the anne marie that victor C makes (more like a split crown). my stone is a 1 ct pear, and this is a reset.

In any case, I am looking at pictures and wondering, does Voctor C do a tilt routinely (the 20% angle) or is it only upon request? I am trying to decide whether I prefer a double row of pave to cover the side or not. in some pictures I feel like the 20% tilt makes the side view pretty sparkely even without the second row of pave, but I am wondering if that is only because of the tilt. in some pictures I feel like I don't see that tilt. all the rings are gorgeous regardless!!!!!- I just personally like seeing more sparkle and virtually no metal from the side.

I am also wondering if with a split crown, there is any possibility of a tilt or double row of pave, or if the tilt wouldn't work with a split crown because a cathedral setting is needed. would a tilted halo or double pave row get in the way of a split crown setting ?

also is there such a thing as a split crown setting without a cathedral? I don't think so, because I think the two sides need to come up to meet the halo, but maybe I am wrong?

thanks as always!!!!

I don't know what you mean by split crown. Do you mean split shank? The crown is what holds the diamond. But you are talking about a halo.

Yes, Victor normally tilts the halo. Some people like the pave on the side of the halo. I personally like it without. You really only show Victor a picture of the halo setting style you like, and he determines how best to make it.

Yes, split shanks generally go up under the halo, because if they stayed at the base, they wouldn't be able to split since the base of the head/halo would be small.

I think the Ann Marie would be gorgeous with a larger pear, but I am not sure the split shank will have the same impact with a smaller center stone.

These are really questions for Victor. But I suggest looking at pictures of rings he has made and then use those to tell him what you like. Then leave the details to him!

I'm sure you could have a split shank with them also being cathedral. It may require a higher basket to attach it to donut.

I prefer the tilted Halo to avoid the dual vertical/horizontal halo design but to each their own.

Since you are supplying the diamond you may want to contact them first. A few of us have found that VC isn't really open to custom work or rather slight alterations to existing designs unless you purchase the diamond from him as well.

thank you both- I guess I meant a split shank but a subtle one that just splits near the top of the ring.

I did not know that he might not want to do custom work when the stone is not his. I wish I knew about him 20 years ago when I got my stone! I can't afford to get a new one since I got it from somewhere in the nyc diamond district with no buy back policy. It also has sentimental value.

one of the reasons I was looking forward to working with victor is the easygoing and nice personality he seems to have form the descriptions given. I just like easy to work with, nice people. will he be upset that I am not getting a diamond from him? how does he communicate his lack of interest in more custom work? is it just the very detailed custom work that he won't do? all his designs say special order/custom I think, and my shape is by definition a custom shape.

there is just something about his work that is so appealing!

VC has quoted on and said he would set my antique pear which was sourced elsewhere. Just so you know.

oh yes! good! actually I can't wait to see yours because though it is MUCH bigger and probably more beautiful than my stone, it is the same shape!!!!

did you decide on the emilya? and is it likely to have alterations to the most common version? that is what I would be leaning towards if I don't do the split shank, but am not sure if I would wear a wedding band with it, or just wear an eternity on the other hand. I am looking forward to hearing about and seeing whatever beautiful setting you do!!!

Victor had been extremely open and friendly to working with stones he doesn't source. He isn't generally into being micromanaged, is my experience with him. You can discuss anything with him. He is easy and open. He does have a certain aesthetic so if you want a certain melee size, he may not necessarily agree that the size will result in the most beautiful ring. But he will talk to you about that. He has been open and friendly to many PSers. I brought my own stone to him with no issues at all.

My impression is that he doesn't talk tk hear he sound of his own voice. Not salesy at all. But he is thoroughly professional and responsive.

Don't let one person's impression turn you off. Contact him and decide for yourself if it is a good fit.

At this point I'm thinking emilya!! I have always loved VC's Anne Marie split too!! I have toyed with two sided pavè also.... Why is it so hard!! Hehe

Do you have pics of your stone? Maybe I missed that but I'd love to see!!

I have a baguette and round (aka kate beckinsale eternity ring) which I'll wear my new pear.

If you're looking to max size of do a three stone pear all haloed!! VC has one on his site although the centre pear is 5ct it gives you an idea!!!
