Ok, so I know I said I''d procrastinate on my research project for my master''s degree by finding the average PS engagement ring size, which I WILL do--HOWEVER! I just got my new camera (belated birthday present)--a Canon S5 IS, and I wanted to see what kind of jewelry pictures I could get. My old camera didn''t even have a macro setting (this one has macro and super-macro!), so shooting my jewelry was a very different experience with this camera. I got more comfortable as I went along.

I don''t have much bling compared to many here, but I love what I have, and had fun taking the pictures. This first one is a new shot of my great-grandmother''s engagement ring, which I suspect is about half a carat (no idea about the metal).

My 0.8 aquamarine ring that J gave me for Christmas this year, and my T&Co thumb ring.

Cool pictures.

My dangly diamond earrings with my rings in the background. It''s hard to see in this picture, but there are small round brilliants nestled in the bottom of the white gold teardrop at the bottom of the dangles. [:)}

Very pretty!!! Your grandmother''s ring is absolutely stunning!

But, apparently, I am not a true PSer...because I have to tell you that I kept on looking at the gorgeous woodwork! Really beautiful, too

Same earrings but from above to see them a bit better. Not as interesting a shot as the one before, but it''s slightly more useful in showing them to you!

My diamond graduation necklace.

Diamond pendant, hanging from a knob on the piano (thanks for the compliment about it, Elmorton! It''s my baby--an antique upright baby grand

The first diamond I ever owned! No idea what the specs are, but I love it to bits. I also think this picture came out pretty well (if I do say so myself

A smidge of yellow gold! These are my aquamarine danglies, hanging off a knob on the piano.

I should be studying too. I''m also a grad student. I really don''t want to, but I''m looking at the bright side, the semester''s almost over!

The pair of diamond pave earrings I got for my 30th birthday last month from my very cool aunt and uncle. You can see all the friends in the background.

Almost done! Here is a shot of me holding my great-grandmother''s ring with some fire!

OMG! It IS a piano!! I thought it was a mantel or some type of built-in. Okay, I''m more in love now...haha, can you post piano shots?!?!

Love the aqua earring shot too... you have some really pretty earrings!!!

Hehehe, thanks! I''ll be happy to take piano shots for you, m''dear--I''ll do it tomorrow when the sun''s pouring in there. I love it soooo much--once upon a time it was a player piano too, although the mechanics for that were removed long ago, alas. But yes, I''d be happy to take photos of it for you.

Thank you also to justjulia and purpleshirt for checking out my stuff! I really appreciate it!

Beautiful collection, Gwen! I love your dangle earrings. Question: is it weird/hard to get them through your ears? I''ve always thought they were such a fun look but I get weirded out by the thought of pulling all that metal through my earlobes.

Anyway, I love all of your pieces, great pics too!

You have some very beautiful pieces, I love your great grandmothers ring!

Hooray for Gwen''s new camera! I see you''re figuring everything out quite well, great shots! BTW, your graduation necklace is gorgeous, I''d totally wear that with everything all the time if I were you.

WOW gwen, what fantastic pictures!! I LOVE the last one of your great-grandmother's Ering, and those aqua earrings are to die for!!!

Beautiful collection Gwen!!! Especially love the aquamarine danglies!

You've got some great stuff, Gwen! I especially love your two sets of dangly earrings and your great-grandmother's engagement ring. Gorgeous!

ETA that you take great pictures, too! I love the piano backdrop!

Love the pics, and all your goodies!

I have a question though. Do you pull part of the chain through your ear on those danglies??

Thanks so much, ladies!! I appreciate the compliments on it all--never knew I had such an interesting earring collection until now! Thank you!

Monnie, to answer your question about if it''s hard or weird to pull the dangly earrings through--it''s not hard, but it does feel kind of weird. You just push the straight metal bit through like it was a post and then thread it through, and the threading feels a bit odd, but it''s not difficult or painful or anything. Just unusual.
1.gif

Ellen, aye, after you slide the straight metal part through your ear, you thread the chain through so that the rounded metal part (on the white gold ones) is the part resting in your ear. The other danglies, my aqua ones, don''t have that metal bit in the middle of the chain, so it''s just chain the whole way down for those. That makes them move around a little (not fall out but start to slide through my ears just a tiny bit). So when I wear them, I check now and then to make sure the aqua part is hanging down as far as I want and about the same as the other earring. The white gold ones don''t do that--they stay put because of the rounded metal piece.

Piano photos for Elmorton!

She dates back to 1868, is an upright baby grand and has such a rich, beautiful sound.

At one time, she was a player piano. The mechanics were removed decades ago, but you can still see where the controls used to be.

Close-up on the player piano controls that no longer exist. That''s the last one! Hope you think she''s pretty like I do.
