ephemery, I hear what you''re sayng. On the other hand, I doubt he spent a whole lot of time, at least as much as with this one, with those others. It could be he really is that sensitive, but didn''t realize it until he had spent some "quiet" time alone with his stone.

My question is, if his girlfriend adores it, and doesn''t see it, would he be happy with that? If not, he definitely needs to return it.

Scott, please let us know what you decide!

I'm sad to hear, Scott, that you are displeased with your stone. You wanted to be happy and excited and now the situation is fraught with stress and worry. I hope you can reconcile your thoughts or get a new stone that pleases you.

I thought I would post pictures of my "H" stone (1.06 carats) as a reference:

Maybe I think my stone looks white because it's set in 18K yellow gold, and I wear pink and yellow diamond bands, but overall I have to say I always think my stone looks white, even when near E-color diamonds. Not as white, but still white.

I purchased a 1.84 H VVS1 Isee2 from GOG and had it st in a MM sunburst. Got the ring back about 10 days ago....Showed it to a few of the co-workers I work with and their jaws dropped. It is stunning. It faces up VERY white, and at night time....under lights it is blinding. Popped the question at the top of Rockefeller on the 70th floor..horse and buggy waiting downstairs at MN for a ride back to the Waldorf where I had gotten a suite, champagne, roses etc........best of all, when i checked in earlier in the day, the room was not ready, so they upgraded me to a 5 room suite from a 2 room suite.....the place was right out of pretty woman..........

back to the ring. the setting is incredible. I went into Tiffanys last sat before giving the ring just to compare...telling them it was my sister ring, and i wanted one just like it......looked at rings from a 2.03 D VS1 for 78000 to an I VS1 1.7 for 22000. got the reports on 3 of them, and they were all OK....
It was very busy, 2-3 couples saw my ring, and kept asking about it. the guy at the counter did comment how it was a very nice ring, and we will find you one just as nice as your sisters. the setting.....blew the doors off the tiffany. The tiffany is nice, and I almost did go for one. But there is a VERY discernable difference between the two. All of the stones were incredibly brilliant under the lighting....The jewler claimed to be certified by GIA, but when I asked him the diffference between fire and scintillation, he could not really tell me......

Now scott, if you did get an Isee2, there is no way it will face up yellow. I was looking at the D, and even in a larger stone, looking at it through the crown, it will reflect a yellow color in some lighting....I flipped my H upside down along with the D, could maybe see a color difference, but again the lighting in Tiffany is such that it is hard to do.......I have to agree with someone else above....your emotions are getting to you....

I have a canon powershot 4.0 and i an not get the camera to focus n the stone...will try again and try to post.....

''your emotions are getting to you.... ''

This is entirely possible, but we need to bear in mind this is a big purchase with not many chances to get it right. Time and time again we have seen here folk who have worried '' the depth is too deep and it bugs me, I bought a diamond which doesn''t look white enough even though it is an H, I can''t live with that tiny inclusion on the side, the table is too large, the angles aren''t right...''

It can go on and on, we see it all the time and it can rob the whole experience of the joy it should bring. Doubts and second guessing is normal to some extent, but with something like colour it can eat away at you over time. To be clear an H can FACE UP WHITE, but it is quite possible to see some very slight colour from the side - maybe that is what the OP is concerned with. Even if so, if it bothers him then it is a problem regardless. My opinion is that such a large purchase which is so significant needs to be as right as it can possibly get, and it is also quite possible that the OP is one of those rare colour sensitive folk, even though an H is plenty white enough for most, his eyes might just see it differently. Possibly he would be happier if he changed it, there are no right or wrongs here except what is right for the purchaser and the wearer. Even if his girl loves the diamond, if he thinks it is too tinted then he might feel that he hasn''t got the best and most beautiful diamond for his girl and could have done better.

To sum up - I think if there are excessive lingering doubts, then maybe it isn''t the right diamond.

Be sure you turn off the flash, and turn the macro setting on. In diffused light, coming from behind the diamond seems to work best. Stay at a distance where you get the focus box, then you can blow it up afterwards. Hope this helps.

And congrats on your engagement! Can''t wait to see your pics.

Sillyboy, I am so glad you posted! I also bought an H from GOG a week ago and I was about to have a panic attack after reading Scott''s post! It took me sooo long to find the right stone and then all kinds of doubts crept back in when I read this thread! I remember that Scott had inquired about your stone when he was looking. I REALLY want to see the pictures of your stone in the Mark Morrell setting as I am considering that setting or the Superbcert Tiffany. One question...did he say if the matching wedding band would be available soon? That is one factor in my decision.

Congratulations, sillyboy!! Please do post here and in a Show Me the Ring thread as soon as you can! We''re waiting to see that beauty!
