Question is if I trade in for a WF ACA with smaller CA will I actually see a difference in person in terms of fire, brilliance and performance?

I think this stone is not bad but something in me wants an ACA. But if im not gonna see that much difference i might keep it.

Your stone has lovely proportions. It is FIC stone, so it flavors fire (rainbow flashes) over scintillation (white sparkle). It also has great color and clarity. What size is it?

I am not sure if you will see a tremendous difference when comparing to a super ideal, but I know what WF stopped taking in trades, so I am not sure if you will even be able to trade it in.

Who is the original vendor? Do you have an update policy? How is the diamond set? Sometimes changing the setting can really change the appearance.

ETA: I just went back to your older posts. You have a great stone! But if you want something larger/different, then you can certainly upgrade your diamond.

Hi.. Sorry I meant upgrade (not trade). It is a WF 0.90 ct. stone.
I have size 5.5 finger, I wanna go big BUT I know w my budget 8k will have to go down in color and clarity.
Can’t decide.

What is the value of your current stone? Just to confirm, you budget is current value + $8K, correct?

value is $5700
current setting is a simple platinum 4 prong at $700.
Yes my budget for stone is 8k

It’s probably more of a mind thing and since you can trade with WF save a bit more and go bigger when you are able.

I think she means total budget is 8k

Beautiful choices!

Hi,
Thank you so much for the above.
Is I gonna be yellow? compared to my G.

Thanks for the above. I’m afraid that an I color will be yellow. What do you think?

Not yellow necessarily but it will have warmth - whether or not you see that warmth and whether or not it bothers you is a totally different but personal question bc people vary.

I is not yellow but any means, but it’s not a G either. You will need to decide if you want to get a much larger size or just a minimal bump in size while staying at G\H level.

Here is a pic of my old I stone next to a G:

If you can visit a store and see some H/I colors and determine how much you value color, then that would be my best advice. I would compare a 1-1.1 H next to a 1.3 I, see where your eye goes. Alternatively, you can ask WF to take a pic of a 0.9 G next to the 1.3 I, next to a 1.1 H and examine the color difference.

If you go to a store to do color comparison, make sure you ask to see an AGS I. I currently have an AGS I, and it looks to me closer to a GIA J. I had the same experience with AGS G, H and K colored stones. This was from a selection of different vendors, so it's not vendor specific.

Hi again,
Sorry I should have probably mentioned that I want a G/H. Thank you tho for helping me and providing the above links.
I acually got in contact w WF. The lady helping me recommend the below. Let me know what you think. It’s little above my budget but can work with it.

It's a beautiful and bright white diamond with tons of life and fantastic edge to edge performance. While I was able to see the inclusions with a 10x loupe I was very hard pressed to see them at 6 inches as is noted by our team. I had to know just where to look and even then had to rock it back and forth very slowly to have the facet light up just right. This is nothing I'd say is super evident. I snapped a photo on my hand as well for you.

A beautiful diamond!! I personally find an eye clean SI1 to be a fantastic value and the H should still be white facing. I'd also ask her if she think it's a low H (closer to I), high H (closer to G) or true H. That might matter to you since you currently have a G.

Don't be, @ac117! Finding the perfect stone is a lifelong pursuit! Come to our Boston g2g on October 20th and you can give me your opinion.

True that and the search is (almost) as much fun as the reward of finding your dream stone. Enjoy the hunt.:appl:

And fwiw I agree AGS *generally* grades one color softer than GIA IMO.

I love this approach although I don't think my DH would !!! I'm trying @mrs-b but DH is still figuring out his ever-changing travel schedule (someone needs to be home with our furbabies). I hope it could work out and will certainly be in touch once I know more!

This is sad for me to read @mrs-b ;(

Ditto @mrs-b, it is truly a work of art! I hope you can make peace with it or eventually alter it to make it 100% what you want. I followed your story in lurkdom and was floored by the final product!

Not to derail and my apologies to the OP, but the other threads about color/compromises had me thinking...

FWIW, I wonder if it may just be a color sensitivity issue more than it being a mis-grade. Especially with an I at that size. I have an I now and I truly prefer colorless stones in most cases. My I was a "compromise" to get the size (2.26 ct) that I wanted and I am happy with it most of the time. I was (and still am) surprised at how white it looks. It is gorgeous. Mine is an AGS ACA from WF and my appraiser who I think is a bit conservative thought it was an I, but narrowly short of an H. He thought my .4ish ACA side stones would have appraised H without paperwork. I say this because I was very concerned about color accuracy going in and wondered if it could be a low I, even though it looked whiter than expected.

At the end of the day, I realized that 1. Speaking only from my experience with this ring and other pieces, AGS has been very "on the money" color-wise. Having an appraisal gave me peace of mind about this. And 2. It's not a colorless stone and I realized I needed to adjust my expectations in order to love the stone for what it is. I would love to have a D (like my pear), but I really don't want to wear that much money on my left hand and I don't want a smaller ring. Something had to give. For my lifestyle, my ring is already a showstopper and it was a huge purchase by my husband (fiancé at the time) intended to make me happy. I love that he did this for me. I'd be lying if I said I was 100% at peace with the decision of an I. However, when I go through the mental steps of "what if," I end up right back at the ring I have, which I do honestly love for its huge size, jewel-toned fire, and sentiment. I guess in my mind a G still has color so if you're going to compromise and go near colorless to get a bigger stone, you might as well go I (or J even) and max out size. ;)) I mean, I can go to a jewelry store and say, "May I please see that "F"?" without them telling me a thing. My mom who is the farthest thing from a diamond snob always said this, too. "Go D or J." And this is not to disparage any other colors-it's just my preference in a MRB. I have D through U/V and wear them all together.

Again, sorry to OP-didn't mean to write so much!
