Just checking in, seems like i missed a lot!

TP, Man, so sorry that the photographer cancelled and that the shoes don't fit! I wonder if the sizing is just weird? Are they USA sizes or european? I am happy though that you loved the color in person! You will have to take a picture in them when they fit properly! Also we need pics of the wedding band :naughty:

Aud YOU are rockin it girl!!! I bet you will be in that size 10 by Oct. Let me tell ya, i'm with you on sizing. I finally have lost 16 labs and i think im *finally* noticing certain things fitting "better"...i obv havent gone down in size but ya know, more roomy...LOL.

My update: I had my heart set on the AA dress, but since i tried on very FEW dresses, i still feel like i need to try on more before committing. Therefore, i have a girls day with a good friend planned saturday. We are going to 2 dress shops. The first one is a new one, they carry a few of the Maggie Sottero gowns i have been eyeballing. The second dress shop is the one i plan to buy from. They can order in any dress from Maggie Sottero, Enzoani Blu, Mori Lee, Allure, Alfred Angelo...and god knows what else, but they dont carry a ton of samples in any of them and lord knows i won't buy it blind! They do have the original AA dress, so after trying on the new dresses, i plan on trying the original dress to see how i feel!

Other than that, i start school next weds and i'm already dreading it. I will only see SO one day a week on Sundays ;( My schedule is so insane this semester. It really makes me sad. We have 3 clinical rotations. The first is supposed to be the most evil instructor known to the nursing program, i always get "lucky" like that! (Last semester i had the toughest one too....but she wasn't evil). Thank god it's only 5 week rotations. SO said he might need to find a stand in gf.

I know this isn't LIW and i'm sorta backwards bc i have a wedding planned but not yet truly "engaged" but i'm venting here a bit. I feel sad because i will see him one day a week till dec 19th. He was supposed to propose by the end of the year. Part of me is so resentful he didn't make it happen while i was on break from school. I did talk to him about it and he said he really does not want to finance any of the ring and thats why it's taking him longer but it will still be "this year"....but it really can't be till after dec 19th...and he's not into holiday proposals (neither am i) and now i'm scared that by the time he does propose, i'll announce to the world about the engagement, then the wedding and we are gonna look like idiots like we are getting married ~6 months after being engaged...when, really, we have been planning this since MAY!!! UGH. I just feel like i am not going to be able to enjoy anything proposal wise. I always told him i didnt want to be proposed to in the middle of the semester due to the nature of my degree program - my mind is always on NURSING and not on life. /end rant....

Thanks for reading haha

I think they are US sizes?
Wedding band pics later today! Don't let me forget. I've got a living room full of teenage girls who were up all night and a kitchen to clean up after the ordeal of making a cake.

Sorry you're going into such a crazy schedule. I know how hard it is to work and be in school :knockout:
Hopefully you'll get past the evil woman and your other rotations will be a bit more pleasant!

Don't stress over the proposal. He'll get around to it when he's got everything ready. (I know.... easier said than done! After we had my first ring, I pointed out every upcoming activity that might be a good time to propose and told him all about the best proposals I'd read about on PS as a hint about what I'd like...)

6 month engagement isn't bad or very uncommon! Lots of people are doing stuff like that. Especially if you've already got a start on planning, I wouldn't worry about it. (and you do have a GREAT start so don't worry!)
The only time I've ever thought anything "negative" (not even negative, just sort of suspicions about reason and intention) about engagement length was when my dad's cousin got engaged and announced a wedding date of less than 2 months out. She was a bit... plump at her wedding and had a "premature" baby close enough to the wedding that everyone could do the math.

Sitting here watching for the UPS truck. Supposed to get my ketubah today and have the shoes sitting here ready to go back. New shoes ordered (well, same shoes just bigger).

Glad I've been ignoring my mother's phone calls. She just tried calling a bunch more times so I decided to listen to the voicemail in case there was something wrong with my grandparents or something. Nope. Just several messages from her over the last week being rude. This last one apologized for the one a couple of days ago so I figured I probably should listen to it too. She threatened to take me to civil court! My own mother! :nono:
No grounds of course so it isn't anything to call my attorney over. Just upsetting!

Yay Audball! Great progress!

The winery knows about my mother and will escort her as needed. She'll be notified this week.
The event planner is also taking care of set-up stuff for me so instead of me e-mailing her pictures of how we'd like stuff arranges, she'll be sending me suggestions and then I can just pick one.
Got two more guests confirmed coming. That takes it up to 11 plus the three of us (counting Rabbi & Cantor). Speaking to the rest later this week. The highest we can possibly get (if everyone we haven't heard from decides to come) is 16 plus us so the winery reduced our count and will reduce what we have to pay also.
For "favors" we'll be having something special in each guest room. Looking at a bottle of wine with two glasses and a corkscrew. Will probably also do a bag of chocolate truffles and maybe some other little munchies tray.

After much waiting..... Picture!
W-band is 14kt white gold. 2mm plain band. LOVE it with my e-ring!

ETA: Funny angle. The w-band is the same width as the e-ring.

Woot! Sounds like things are coming together. I had meant to ask you about your numbers since you were stressing about them. Glad to know more responses came in and bonus...you get to spend less money.

The plain band looks lovely with your ring! I love plain bands :))

Got a few things done yesterday. We selected a new camera from Best Buy's labor day sale. Very happy with it. I ordered my bridal hair accessory (fingers crossed we love it when it gets here...), I also made some headway on the stationary for the vows, but haven't made a purchase yet. We found a few possible options and will wait to hear about customization options before proceeding. We also plan to knock our cake topper out today so hopefully that'll work out! Happy Labor Day ladies! :))

You gals are making such great progress!

TP, i love the plain wedding band. You and Aud are wedding band twins!

Thanks for the support the other day, i really just needed to vent. I felt immediately better after venting and letting out my cray cray.

The only thing i have done is put out an email to my sales consultant that i always work with at T&Co. SO definitely wants that wedding band, so i needed to make her aware to keep an eye on it for us. I know they do a price increase fall/spring. She said she doesn't see it going up in the next price increase, but if it happens to get on the list she will let me know. I would love to wait till the spring to buy it - but if it will go up before then, it makes more sense to buy it early than pay hundreds more for the same thing. Seems like i am safe for now though.

Also, my dress shopping is on hold til Oct 5th. My BFF is moving home this month and she was bummed i was going 2 weeks before she would be home (i just found out she was moving home, so i was more than happy to oblige).

I cannot believe it's already SEPT!!!! Everything is SO CLOSE for you gals! :appl: :appl:

No problem LLC! Venting is exactly what this thread is for! I hope that you're able to snag the Tiff's wedding band for your FF at the current pricing and still wait until Spring! But it's good to have the feelers out there so that if it is going to increase in price, that you have an opportunity to get it sooner. Way to be economical :))

I cannot wait to see dress shopping pics! So great that you'll get to do it with your BFF!

And SERIOUSLY. We have a little white board on our fridge to scribble down grocery things when we run out so we remember for the weekend. At the very bottom I put ____ days to go! <3 and we've been counting down every day since about 111 days out. Today, we updated it to 58. HOLY CRAP when did it get so close!? So excited and ready for October.

LLC -- If you don't vent somewhere during this process, you will go nutty! Weddings are one of the happiest moments in life but really do bring about some of the most stressful.

45 days :-o :appl:

Change of plans. Won't be doing any dancing. Of the people who will be there, 6 have no one to dance with (and are not likely to want to dance anyway) and another 2 are unable to dance. FI will probably be better enough to stand for the ceremony and make it through dinner/mingling but probably couldn't manage a dance.
The winery suggested skipping a DJ and just getting speakers to plug a tablet computer into. My only problems with that are that FI is SUPER picky about speaker quality and can't help but tweak stuff in an attempt to get better quality. So I can picture us spending more money on speakers than we would on a DJ (FI is already talking about 7.1 surround sound computers...) and pictures of me angry at the wedding as he's over fiddling with speakers instead of enjoying the day. Yeah :nono:
Talking to the DJ we were going to use to see if we might use them anyway.

Winery will be setting up couches and comfy chairs in groups so we can just relax and sip wine after dinner.

Wow TP! It's really coming! :))

Based on what you've said, it sounds like nixing the dancing is a good idea. I just hope your FI is feeling better in general! Probably best not to be further stressed about whether he'll even be able to dance.

As for speakers/etc -- I think it's worth a look at speakers and skipping the DJ because the DJ seems like a waste if (s)he isn't coordinating music/playlists, but if the speakers would cost more, than I'd just stick with the DJ you already have booked. Do you even have the option of canceling the DJ at this point? Did you not have a contract already?

Also -- how goes the search for a new photographer? I hope that big one gets settled soon!

Great progress Audball!
What sort of topper are you doing?

I haven't seen speakers that would cost less than 600-800 that FI would like. We had talked about this before calling a DJ and he just kept adding stuff until it was $$$$ (speakers, wire, wire covers, receiver, etc etc). He is also sure that he'll have to swap stuff around, move it from ceremony site to reception area and then keep changing playlists. (said with an excited look as he enjoys stuff like that but with me saying "but. But. This is our wedding. You can't be fidgeting all day!")
The DJ service is super flexible since we're on a Thursday. We don't have to sign any sort of contract until like a month out and even within a couple of weeks can still make changes. I think we can get them to do music for the ceremony, music for the reception and the up lighting for about the same as the speakers and stuff would cost. The biggest benefit would be that FI wouldn't be disassembling/reassembling speakers as the guests walked from the ceremony to reception.

Found a photographer!
Just got off the phone with her. She'll cost about $600 less than the one who canceled on us and possibly closer to $1000 less if she gives us the 2013 discount! Her pictures look as good or better. We'd get all high resolution digital files plus engagement session plus 20 page wedding album for all that! She's also checking with her husband and may negotiate something where she stays over night with him in exchange for taking pictures of brunch & wine tasting the next day.

Ketubah should be here tomorrow. Shoes a couple of days later -- Zappos upgraded me to 2-day shipping for no extra charge :appl:

Woot! Thanks. Cake topper is a secret for now! I'll definitely share pictures once we've gotten it completed (assuming it works out...), but we're keeping it hush hush for now. ;))

I definitely think you should let someone else (like a DJ) be in charge of all that. Fiddling with speaker set up is the last thing your FI needs to be worrying about on your wedding day. And YAY on finding a photographer who is not only less expensive, but just as good! Lots of good news and progress on your end!

Gah! The suspense will kill me!
Okay.... but you've GOT to post pictures when you've got it!

I think I finally got FI to agree that a DJ would be better. He hadn't considered the moving of stuff between ceremony and reception! We'd either have to buy two complete sets (way more than DJ) or have him playing technician the whole evening while guests wait around. I'm going to see about cutting the hours needed from 10pm to 8pm. That should offset adding ceremony stuff and still leave us as much time as we'd want. They can also add on time the day of so they wouldn't pack up if we were still wanting them around.

First day of school for "A" :appl:
She is SOOoooo excited. She's spent most of the last week wishing for school to just start already so she can find out what classes her friends have

Haha, sorry! I promise to get pictures if we an pull it off. I'm SOOO not a DIY kind of person, but we really liked the idea we had so I'm hoping we can get it to work out.

Glad you got your FI on board with the DJ idea...that definitely sounds like the better option in your situation.

Yay for A being excited to go to school! I hope she has a wonderful first day!

Ketubah got here.... crushed!
It came in a super strong tube marked all over with "Fragile" and "Handle with care!" but it was smashed in the middle! There are several spots where the ketubah itself is wrinkled. One will be covered by a picture mat so probably doesn't matter. One is right in the middle of the ketubah but is only visible if you look really really close and know it is there. The other is in the white space where I don't know if a mat will cover or not. FI doesn't think it matters. I suppose it will look okay when it is framed and I'll never see the spots again. It just irritates me that UPS is late in delivering it and then managed to crush it!

New shoes are here too!
One pair is WAY too big so has to go back.
Still deciding about the other pair.

It is reasonably comfortable until my foot creeps down to where my toes are peeping out and then it squeezes my foot. If I could get something to go on the ball of my foot, it might work okay but only about 1/8 inch of my big toe would be in the "peep" spot. Would this look goofy?
They are already a bit narrow (like the middle of my foot already hangs a bit over the edge -- not sure if they are meant to or not??) so I can't just get the next size down or they just wouldn't go on.
If I let my toes slide part way down, it is painful and leaves something like 1/2 inch gap in the heel...

Help!
"A" says I should just stick tape in them to hold them in place and FI suggested either wadding up tissue paper to stuff in them or wearing thick socks

Excuse the icky looking feet & legs.

I can't believe they were late AND crushed the ketubah! I would be LIVID! Is there any recourse? If it can be redone, I'd see if I could do that. It would bug me too...sorry they messed it up!

As for the shoes...the color is beautiful! But those are just too big on you. I would send them back and keep looking. If you are willing to post your size and budget, I'll try to look around for some possibilities for you. I hate the squishing effect too which is why I rarely wear a peep toe. Personally, it needs to either be open toe or closed toe. I also typically avoid pointy toe shoes because I tend to feel crowded in the toe box. That being said, my wedding shoes are pointy toe and I'm compromising slightly on comfort because I just love them so much and they fit well otherwise. Do not listen to the suggestions of thick socks (oh goodness...) or using tape. You'll be uncomfortable and it isn't worth it. I also am afraid that with that much room in the heel that you'll be less steady. All around, it's a beautiful shoe but doesn't seem to be a good fit on you.

With a size (I know you need wider widths), budget, and general style preferences, I'll try to look around for you. Others may be able to help too if you post what you're looking for. Hang in there, we'll figure something out!

I'm e-mailing the ketubah place and seeing what they can do. It is an original done by an artist and written by a calligrapher so I don't know how they handle this stuff. We're also coming into the major Jewish holidays so it will be hard to get anyone to reply over the next couple of weeks ;(
I guess the good news is that it didn't actually rip, BUT it is very visible. The shipping tube is so crushed I couldn't even get it back in again! Not sure what happened but they had to have run it over or dropped something very heavy on top.
Our delivery guy is awesome! He is always super careful so I know it had to have happened before it got to him. (His wedding is in just a couple of weeks :appl: )

I usually wear a 7w but certain shoes are better in a 7-1/2w. I was measured at 6-1/2 but the same guy who did that measurement couldn't get the shoe to go on my foot after he insisted it was the right size
The wide is usually my biggest problem. Certain brands make "wide" too narrow for me. (The Vigotti shoes I just had on were an 8-1/2w because the 7w and 7-1/2w were WAY too small)

The peep toe thing was exciting for me because I usually hate closed toe shoes as they very often rub my foot all wrong. If I get them wide enough to fit my foot, they are loose and have to be packed with tissues or something in an attempt to keep them from falling off. I'd never tried a peep toe with heels and had hoped they'd work out better since the sandals I have been wearing have something like that and are super comfortable.

These were $99 + tax. I'd love to keep it under $100, but will happily go up to $150-200 if the shoes are comfortable and cute!

I love the purple color but a blue might be fun too. We're doing navy blue (closer to royal but deeper than that) and purples as our colors. Not much in color so it doesn't matter terribly!

Eeeek!
Just looked at the calendar and I HAVE to have the shoes by 9/11 as that is my first fitting :-o

What about these? I found them on Zappos for under $100. They have two different wider width options (C and D). I like the ruffle on the toe (which is fully closed) and they're really pretty in navy satin and red satin!
http://www.zappos.com/vigotti-ulinda-ivory-satin?zfcTest=fcl:3

These are also adorable (lower heel). I actually ordered and tried these in Bone for myself. I ultimately wanted something with a slightly taller heel, but they were comfortable for the price and I did consider them. I think if I had purchased an all white dress and could have gone with one of the fun colors instead of just Bone, they'd have been a winner! They come in the wide width option D. I love both of the purple options, the turquoise, reds, and the metallics!

I like the look of the first pair! The blue might be too dark? Hard to tell from the computer. The others looked different in person than in the picture so they might be just the color I'm after. The red are gorgeous! (FI says NO red anything ;( )

The second has a great purple option! I like that they have a strap to hold your feet in but are still cute! I'm not too sure about the lower heel, but the slightly wider heel that is shorter might actually make me more comfortable. There is a slope down to the ceremony location. Since I'll be walking by myself, I need to be stable on my feet!

Yay! The blue are on the dark side on my screen too, but shoes do tend to be slightly more vibrant in person than in photos.

The second pair were really comfortable. Here's a shot of me in the bone color. And a peek at the bottom of my dress! The other reason they didn't work out is because the bone color, while whiter than ivory, was creamy than a pure white and the lace on my dress is pure white. I'm sure most people wouldn't have noticed, but it bothered me enough.

They have my other favorites in my size now!

David Tate Rosette

I wonder if I should do D or EE? Or maybe just suck it up and order a 7D, 7-1/2D, 7EE, and 7-1/2EE?

Thinking maybe I want to order the purple Gabriella shoes you posted too....
Hmmm...

That would sure teach FI not to fall asleep when important decisions have to be made

What about these? I found them on Zappos for under $100. They have two different wider width options (C and D). I like the ruffle on the toe (which is fully closed) and they're really pretty in navy satin and red satin!

Okay...

Ordered:

4 of the David Tate Rosette -- two in D and 2 in EE
2 of the Gabriella in purple
1 of the vigotti ulinda in ivory

Did the 2 day shipping so it should be here soon :appl:

I tried to respond last night but PS was down! Sorry!! I got the email that you posted and went to reply and couldn't! :(

I'm glad your previous favorites are back in stock! They really are beautiful! I hope you love one of the pairs that comes in! I was going to recommend just ordering multiple shoes in multiple sizes if your credit card could swing it since you know you'd be returning (at worst, all of them, at best, all but one of them) and that you'd only be "out" the credit for a little while since they are pretty fast with returns.

I think for sheer comfort that I'm torn between the navy david tate rosettes or the purple gabriella rocha gingers. I hope you love one of them!

What a horrible time for it to go down! I was dealing with dinner and getting "A" back into the routine of homework while trying to get the shoes done and then.... :-o
Poor FI  I did explain their return policy so he's better now!

I'm hoping that at least one pair fits and is comfortable! I like all of them so we'll see.
I might actually keep a couple of pairs if they fit...

E-mailed with the new photographer last night. Her contract mentioned "digital negatives" which left me wondering what the difference was between those and the high resolution DVD. After a few e-mails we got it sorted out -- digital negatives would give us exclusive ownership so she couldn't use on her website or in her portfolio. If all we want to do is edit, print, give print or digital copies to friends/family, post online etc we just need the DVD.

Engagement pics September 16 :appl:
Need to pick a location (closer to where we live since she's over on this side too) and find stuff to wear.

I know! They do have a simple (and free!) return policy, so it's not really a big deal. Since you're down to the wire with needing to have shoes for your first fitting, I totally don't blame you for ordering lots of styles and sizes! I hope one works out perfectly!

Our engagement pictures are September 21 and we still have to figure out outfits too! It's on our to-do list for this weekend and FI really dislikes shopping...he's been a total trooper though!

I have enjoyed reading about all the progress on each of your plans! So close! How exciting! :appl:

TP, I LOVE those shoes- I hope you find a pair that fit wonderfully and make you feel amazing!
Aud, that dress is gorgeous! Can’t wait to see pics of the whole look!

‘Engaged-girl problems’ Vent:
I am truly frustrated with wedding planning and it has been a little over 2 weeks since our engagement. SO’s family is really tight knit and would be heartbroken if we eloped somewhere but when I pointed out that we could spend 2 weeks in Hawaii for what we will pay for this ONE DAY, he was like, Let’s do it! The problem is I don’t want to start off on the wrong foot with his fam. I know that his mom would be sad. My parents sort of get it. My mom said she would like us to do some kind of BBQ afterwards to make our family part of the celebration but that she understood how much more ‘us’ it would be to go on a beautiful vacation and get married. His sister gets married in one month. After all the dust settles from that I think we will have a nice conversation with his family and see what their thoughts are.

Right now though, I am in limbo. I started looking at venues. SO is totally into golf and I found two golf clubs with beautiful venues in a little town that we love. So we are going to look at those. I really don’t want to fall in love either of them right now given that I don’t know what we will end up doing. Then there is the whole budget thing. If we do a huge wedding, I am thinking it would need to be in June of 2015 which is SOOOOO far away (1year, 9 months, and 2 days to be exact).

We live in a cold state with snow so fall/winter are sort of out and I don’t know that we can have enough money saved/have everything done by next summer- that’s like . We really don’t want to accept money from our parents if we don’t have to- I am fine with someone buying the cake, his suit, my dress—something like that but nothing too crazy.

So then I am like COURTHOUSE and fancy dinner, baby! :naughty: Hahahaha. Oh the mind of a newly engaged woman.

Thanks for allowing me to vent! I will keep you all posted on the plans.

It's nice having someone new around here! Your newly engaged concerns are something I think that A LOT of people go through. Whether or not someone's family is tight knit -- it seems weddings are very important to families as a whole. It's one of those huge life events that people want to celebrate with you, but that doesn't mean that you should feel obligated to share that day with everyone if you don't want to! I totally get not wanting to get off on the wrong foot with the new in-laws, but if a vacation/wedding for the two of you is "you" and something people can see you doing, than I'd hope they love the two of you enough to accept that as a valid choice. My sisters are sad that we're eloping, so are my parents, his family, friends, etc. but they have all unanimously agreed that our plans are "us" and understand that we're doing it to start off on a better foot financially as a married couple by not spending all our money on a big party.

I think talking to his family to get a feel for the private wedding option may help alleviate your feelings. After our talk with my FI's family, it turned out they all thought it was a good fit for us and started recommending a bunch of places we could do it! And his Mom even said she's throw us a dinner a few months later to celebrate. Win-win. We get our private wedding/honeymoon combo at a price we can afford, and a dinner to celebrate with our close friends and family in a few months. It sounds like your Mom is open to his idea too!

After we got engaged, while we had always talked about just eloping, the pressure/confusion/temptation to have a "real wedding" happened and we looked at several venues and priced out vendors before calling it quits and reverting back to Team Elope. Shopping for venues is both good and bad when your'e still undecided because on the one hand, it helps you get an idea of what the big shindig could actually cost you, but on the other hand, if you fall for something you could end up changing your mind when you (maybe) don't want to.

We had the exact same issue with the timeline which is partly why we also reverted back to Team Elope. If we had gone forward with the big wedding plans, we were looking at Fall/Winter 2014 (engaged 12/21/12) and we didn't want to wait that long. Opposite of you, we live in FL and April through September are excruciating with the heat so we were only considering Fall and knew that we couldn't have the budget in place for this Fall and next Fall felt a million years away. Ultimately if you really WANT the big wedding, it's worth saving and waiting for, only you and your FI can decide.

I can completely sympathize with wanting to find a balance that works for you guys and personally LOVE the idea of a courthouse wedding and big dinner with your nearest and dearest. I've seen several of those in posts on Offbeat Bride which is another great place to read for wedding ideas that aren't mainstream big white wedding.

I do hope you'll stick around and bounce ideas off of us! I can't wait to see how your day plays out!
