I have this garnet in a mica schist, won it in a geology class contest thirty years ago. Very dark red. The mica holds a half dozen smaller garnets. Any value to a rock collector or for jewelry?
Not really..garnet in shist is very common..many places in North carolina and georgia you can stop by on the side of the road and collect them..little pine Garnet mine in NC is the same type thing..lots of fun chisling them out of the mine walls
