First-time buyer - Advice on potential e-ring (James Allen)

Hi all,

I am a first-time e-ring/diamond/etc. buyer, so I want to make sure I get as much advice as possible! I've been lurking for weeks now, and have been searching for the perfect ring and researching 4 C's, etc. Here are some conditions that I am abiding by in my search:

-I'd like to get a 1.0 carat
-Must be from reputable seller (online or B&M)
-Something in the $6000-$8000 range
-Platinum ring preferable - she hates anything gold (or the potential to turn gold)

My SO tends to gravitate towards vintage/antique rings and jewelry, so I am having a bit of a struggle deciding on a proper setting. In a sense, I have been going towards subtle solitaire settings just to be safe. Either way, she is very laidback and I know it probably won't matter TOO much to her. However, I would like to get the best I possibly can of course.

I have been looking at the following diamond and setting from James Allen, and would like to get some expert opinions on what you guys think:

Please give me some feedback on the diamond and setting. I personally think the setting looks sophisticated, however, I don't trust my judgment on this. I like the subtle details and the minimal prong-i-ness in the picture. However, I am not experienced at all so I feel the need for help!

Thank you for your response! I like it as well. I suppose it isn't "Vintage" or "Antique". However, my intention is that it is subtle/simple enough that she will definitely like it. It is a bit pricey. Do you guys think it is worth it for the setting?

I think both the diamond and the setting are pretty. However, I agree with motownmama that it is not vintage or antique looking. Have you considered old cuts or newly cut old cuts like August Vintage Round from Good Old Gold?

Thanks for the input! I have not actually considered a vintage old cut from Good Old Gold, but will look into it.

From what I've experienced, she hasn't expressed any inclination towards a particular cut of stone, and she has admired modern diamond cuts before. However, she tends to like a minimal"antique" styling on her rings, which is why I narrowed it down to that particular setting.

I am hesitant to get something "too" vintage or "too" antique for the risk of her possibly not liking it. However, I do agree with you all that this ring is more "modern" than "vintage/antique".. but I really do love the setting for some reason and am glad to see that you guys think it is a nice setting as well. If I find a minimal setting that is more antique/vintage, I will definitely post it here for more input.

As for as the diamond I have narrowed down, what do you all think of the quality of it? I have limited knowledge on specific diamond characteristics, but I chose that specific diamond because I wanted to maximize on cut while maintaining my budget. Again, my knowledge is limited.

The diamond is fine, please put it on RESERVE so that no one else can buy it from under you. Another poster was looking for a diamond with those specs yesterday, and there are a lot of lurkers.
