Final 3 diamonds. Help me pick which please?!

Hi everyone,

So we're definitely going to go with Brian Gavin and we've got the setting picked, we're going for the Classic Truth setting, in 14k rose gold. I've picked three diamonds that look good to me and they all score less than 2 and the HCA.

The confines of my search were;
H
VS2
Excellent/Ideal cut,
Roughly between 0.7-0.8, not much more than $3000. I know people have said we can get an SI1 that's eyeclean but I just don't feel comfortable about going to an SI1.

What question should I ask the guys at Brian Gavin about these diamonds, or what information should I ask for? I've gotten this far but now I feel a bit lost.

One of the big advantages of using vendors like BGD is that their specialty is their in-house diamonds. I'd make use of that and skip the Select stones, almost any vendor can call those in.

Can you ask BGD for an idealscope of the 0.774 Blue stone? It's already an AGS 0 cut stone, but an IS image will help.
 
Ahh, I didn't know that's how the Signature/Select worked. Now I know that I can change perimeters a bit.

These are 3 that fit the criteria, one being a little too over budget, but that's one is more because it has no fluorescence.

Ask for the IS image (they'll take it for free, I believe), and ask whether the BGD Blue would have qualified for their Signature line if it didn't have fluorescence. All three have AGS Ideal cut grades, which is great, but we would need the IS images to compare the three further.

You can also tell them that you are comparing all three side by side, and ask for their opinion of which one looks the best.
 
Hello! I just want to say, I really wish that you would include SI1 stones in your search! I know you said that you aren't comfortable doing that, and I do respect that, but since you're searching through such a reputable vendor, I'm SURE you can find a bigger, beautiful stone that is SI1 and no one, including you, would EVER know it if it's completely eye clean! There is a reason why so many PSers go that route. Just my 2 cents. :P ;)
 
I understand completely meganmomma, I tried to include SI1 in my search but there weren't any! I'm getting idealscopes hopefully Mondayish, so I'll be able to post them then.

The diamonds have ASET images, so we do not need idealscope images.

I honestly have never seen a BG Blue stone that I thought was less well cut than their Signature stones. I believe they would be impossible to differentiate in person.

I absolutely would choose the .77 blue unless it isn't eyeclean from the top and sides. Fluorescence is good in an H stone.

You seriously do not need to ask them for this with the ASET's posted.

The .77 is larger than the other two so it is pretty much a no-brainer. All three stones have outstanding cuts. The only thing to verify is if it is eyeclean from top and sides.
 
I don't think there were any ASET photos when I posted a few days ago, it's nice to see BGD finally put them up. I agree with DS, the 0.77ct one looks great

HUGE +1. And really, again, you do not need to wait for the IS image. the ASET looks perfect!
 
I was hoping you would all say the .77. That's the one I've had my eye on fro the start and have fallen completely in love with. I'll get them to double check for eyeclean and to satisfy my OH absolutely no milkyness (I know BG Blue won't have any, but he wants to see it in writing).

I just looked again and it says that the .77 is reserved - I'm assuming that's you?! I hope so!!
 
Unless someone at BG has reserved it for me, which I can't see happening as the person I'm dealing with isn't in work til tomorrow. So I haven't been able to ask her to reserve it.
That's more than a little annoying.
Oh well.
 
Aw that sucks! Unfortunately sometimes lurkers on take diamonds that PSers approve of from the OP

What I don't get is how they reserved it? I mean are other people at BG at work over a weekend but just not the person I'm talking to and they reserved it through them?
It's really annoying because nothing else they have looks like it will work, it's either too low in colour or too expensive. :angryfire:

Something will come along I'm sure. < That right there is me being hopeful when I'm actually really disappointed lol.
 
You can actually reserve it yourself online. Keep an eye out because that person may change their mind, once you see something you like just put it on reserve yourself, I believe it can be held for a couple of days. Fingers crossed for you :)
 
How do you reserve them? I can't find an option other than full payment.

I'm not sure how you reserve anything, but if you're not hearing back from the person that's helping you, just start a live chat and you should get some info right away.
 
I found out how, it's really easy lol. You just email them the ID number and your name and say you want it reserved. I just assumed since I wasn't hearing back that they were shut over the weekend and I wouldn't have to worry about reserving it as I was pretty much gonna buy it today.
Lesson learned :)
