I picked a DATE AND a VENUE!!!

I had to decide by this weekend and I finally have. I've gotten so many ideas while being at home with my family (due to Hurricane Ike), that it is almost unbearable!! I want to do all of it, NOW!!

Did anyone else have this feeling, where you weren't totally "into it" until you had the base decisions made?? Then it all becomes really exciting again??

ETA: Oops, the date is July 25th, 2009

Meresal, congrats on picking a venue and date! Mine is still 10 months away, so I have plenty of time to plan...almost too much! But things will just start to fall into place after that. It IS a very nice feeling!

Where do you live? I was displaced by Ike as well. I'm one of the few lucky ones back in Houston with power. Most of my friends still don't have it!

EDIT: We are getting married the same day!!!!

Congrats!

It was definitely the same for me. I think it was because I could actually picture how other things would be, kind of like the venue is base that everything else gets molded around. It really does set the tone and style to go off of for the rest of your planning.

Hooray! I''m so excited for you, meresal! I was so happy, relieved, and excited once we had the venue and the date. After that, planning was a million times more fun.

Happy planning to you!

YAH Meresal, congratulations on crossing these two biggies of your to-do list

Do you have pictures of your venue?

Congrats Meresal! How exciting!
I felt exactly the same as you ... I haven''t stopped going or being excited since we picked our date and venues.
Have lots of fun now that you are feeling into it again!

Thanks Lanie, I live in Clearlake, but thought there was no damage to my home, my office downtown was a different story. We aren''t going to be able to return there for at least 3 months. Yay!! We''re wedding twins!! :) Well have to keep eachother updated with our progress. Have you picked a color scheme yet??

Thanks Morgie44!!!

Thank you Kittybean. I''m so excited!!

pochontas, I completely forgot about pictures. I''ll post some below.

Sparkalicious, it''s nice to know I''m not the only one out there!! Thank you!!

The facade of the buliding downtown. It''s on the 14th floor (the top).

Congratulations on setting a date and finding a place!! It looks great! I got engaged a few weeks before you and we have been searching nonstop to find a venue. I have a lot of time still, we''re planning Oct09, but I just want to check venue off my list.

I''m hoping to get the same feeling of excitement once the place is set. I hate to admit I dont feel that into the planning either. I want to get into the fun stuff already!

congrats again!

The buffet/serving room

ETA: There will actually be one circular cheese and "nibbles" table in the middle with the large spray, and then 2 rectangle tables like the one shown on each side. (I think... we're still coming up with floor plans)

The Ballroom... still trying to decide if we want the dancefloor at the end of the room or in the middle where the entrance is.

Thanks luvbug!! Finding a venue was the biggest deal to me as well, and the hardest decision actually. Now that it''s been made, I really feel like everything else can start. It will be like you just got engaged again. I love it, and surprisingly FI is way more into it now as well. I think there is something about seeing it all piece together that makes every decision exciting!!

Yes, I did the first day I went out. Here is the link, https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/found-my-dress.93537/

Thanks everyone!!It was my first choice and I'm glad I stuck to my guns. My parents were really pulling for another place. I'm trying to find one last picture of the foutain the you walk by when entering the ballroom.

Ok, another update... we decided on the church as well.

Got FI's mom's list on Sunday at a whopping 175 guests!!! So obviously we are going with my church, since the other one held a maximum of 200. I'm really excited since this is where I grew up and was confirmed.

Here are the 3 entry doors...

Wow Mersal, that church is gorgeous! You've got great taste in everything from your dress to the venue to this. I can't wait to see your other choices along the way

How did I miss this thread??? Your venue is GORGEOUS !!! and So is your church!!!!! Im glad everything is falling into place!! Have you decided on colors yet???

Meresal, I like the dance floor in the middle because then more guests can watch the fun from their tables (those who are resting or just not that into dancing). Also, it makes it easier to GET to the dance floor from your table. The people sitting in the back of the room would have a real struggle otherwise, and might feel like second-class citizens because they''re in the back and can''t see much. Just my 2 cents.Your venue is gorgeous!

Pocahontas: Thank you!! I''ll be sure to post everytime I come up with something new!!

BB: Thank you so much! The colors... that would be the question of the hour. I''m having a very hard time, because I''m trying to stay away from bright colors, and still have it not look like the middle of winter. Any ideas??

MarchSB: I am in agreement with you, because I like that idea that everyone wants to be involved, however, my mom likes the idea that, if the dance floor was at the end of the room, then people would be able to escape from the "noise"
20.gif
(LOL) a little bit if they wanted. I see where she is coming from, but the dance floor would be secluded behind tables. Actually at the rate this thing is growing (read "FI''s mother''s count"
14.gif
), we might be needing a whole other room that people could escape to. We will see... Thanks for you input!!

what are the colors of the walls in the room (not the buffet room) it looks like a gold with some color curtains but I cant tell... Id suggest maybe kind of playing to the theme/color scheme of the room, because its a gorgeous room and would only add to your colors... What color is your dress again?? I think it was ivory? I cant remember though.. Do you have any favorite colors you must have? Or just anything?? Does your FI have any colors he WOULDNT prefer?? I know some dont like pink and whatever or is he open to anything???

Im thinking maybe brown with like a deep red and maybe a champagne/gold color??? I think it would be glamorous/elegant... that kinds seem like the feel of the room...

meresalredbown.jpg

heres another pic... maybe you could also do like a peach/tan/chocobrown???

meresalredbrown2.jpg

BB: Ok, I found a sample of what we're looking at.

I was thinking slate/ivory/??? I'm worried that it may have a VERY winter feel to it, but to keep in mind that it will be a night wedding. I like you idea of the peach, but I worry that it may border a little too close to pink, which is one color we don not want, that and bright yellow or neon orange.

This is the color slate (the ribbon color) I am thinking? Opinion? or an idea of an accent color that would "summer" it up a little bit?

slate grey.jpg

I think peach would look fab... but ya definitely make sure if you use it... you stress that it is PEACH and not a light coral or pinky... you want peach :-) I think a dark teal might also look nice with it too?? what do you think?? I will play around with some colors tonight when im in class :-)

I really like the teal and the eggplant too or maybe some lime green accents. I was thinking White Tulips for my BM''s, and then the white and green stems would really pop off of the slate dresses.

ETA: I found a pallet with the lime green, but it won''t let me post it??
