I am wondering if there are some people who have exchanged a diamond through Whiteflash within the 30 day period for another diamond, how long did that process take from time you send it back to time new diamond set in same setting took?

Also, let’s say you get a diamond and setting from them (or other online jeweler with similar exchange/return policy), and you want to keep setting but not diamond and get diamond from elsewhere, can you just send the diamond back if a local jeweler takes it out of the setting?

Thanks!! Not planning to do any of this but curious if the need is there how it works and what the experience has been.

I haven’t exactly done a return within 30 days for a refund or to exchange the diamond, but ...

I have returned a diamond. WF acknowledged receipt and had it inspected and credit confirmed within a day or two. That was really fast. If it was a credit card refund, I’m sure they would have issued that right away, and then I would have had to wait 1-3 days for my bank to clear it.

I had a new diamond set in a new setting that I provided. It took just over two weeks from when WF received the diamond (they already had the setting) However, this was part of the custom cut thing and I’m not sure if that’s always how long it takes to set a new diamond ... I suspect it’s about average ... like the time it takes for a new order if the setting is available.

So ,,, my best guess is that it would take 2-3 weeks from the day you send the ring to them .... for them to exchange the diamond in the same setting, or in another setting that you provide to them (like I did).

If you return the diamond only, no reset, I’m sure it would only take a couple of days for everything to be complete ... say, maybe a week.

The mechanics were painless. WF sends a label (and international paperwork, if necessary), you go to the shipper and put your things in the boxes, and the courier staff takes care of the rest. Insured and paid by WF. Super easy.

I’m sure you could have the diamond unmounted and return only the diamond to WF. I personally would not want to do things that way just in case the diamond got damaged by your local jeweller (another thought: does the jeweller insure your diamond or do you want to get insurance). If WF got back to you and said the diamond was damaged, you would have a big mess to deal with. This might be an unlikely scenario, but it’s one that I would avoid.

If you want to return the diamond and keep the setting, I would recommend sending the ring to WF and have them remove the stone and return the setting to you.
