Hi All -

It's about that time to research for a wedding band for my fiancee before our wedding in 12 months. Here is my question to all PSers:

I got a platinum engagement ring and want to know if I should stick with a platinum wedding band or go with white gold. Are there any differences in appearance if the two are side by side if the metal are different. Any other differences? Please help.

Cheers,
TK Khen

I'd stick with platinum. There most certainly is a visual difference.

You don't want to mix metals. Definitely go with platinum.

+1 platinum, especially because white gold will look different, whiter more shinier. Also with White gold you will have to redo the rhodium from time to time. Platinum wears in much nicer IMO, and when scratched the metal just moves around unlike gold which you actually loose metal. Platinum is stronger and when comparing to 14k or 18k is purer if that means anything to you. The downsides platinum is more expensive, both because the metal costs more and because it is denser and will take more platinum by weight to make the same size ring. Also for some designs platinum is harder to work with so the jeweler will charge more.

Another vote for platinum. Not just for the color difference, but for the difference in how the two will wear.

I agree about sticking with platinum. I'm all for mixing metals, but not metals of the same color, if you kwim? I mixed a platinum 3 stone with a rose gold band and a platinum band and I like the way it looks. I don't think mixing two white metals would look good and the patina may look off between the two over time, not to mention that white gold has to be rhodium dipped or it takes on a yellowish cast....

Thank you all for your insights.

Cheers,
TK Khen
