Hi all,

I need some help with choosing a stone for my engagement rock, as we have a budget constraint.
My requirement:
Shape: round brilliant
Budget : < 2500 USD for stone
Size : > 0.7 carat
Colour: >= H
Clarity: SI1-VS1
Cut: as good as possible
Flororescence: was thinking about med to strong... Is that a good idea?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Wait for the experts, but I think this one could be nice. The JA online chat rep says it's eyeclean.

Two more without flourescence...JA often has a discount for their stones if you ask so these are probably within budget.

I would suggest you call Yekutiel at ID Jewelry - he will be able to help you to find a stone and a setting within your budget. He's easy to work with and very caring. Be sure to tell him you were recommended by PriceScope. Good luck - I hope you find what you're looking for. :wavey:

Here are two options within budget to consider from Blue Nile:

1. 0.76ct H-VS2 round with a 54% table and a 36% crown, and strong blue fluorescence ($2497): http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-details/LD07463713

I ran the HCA tool (https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca), and it received a 1.6 Total Score, and falls within the white-bordered AGS 0 candidate box.

I also ran the AGA Cut Class Tool (https://www.pricescope.com/tools/AGA_NAJA_Cut_Class_Grader), and the total score was 1A (receiving 1As in all categories, excepting a 1B for crown angle).

This is a VS2 diamond with crystal and cloud as the listed inclusions. If you're interested in this stone, perhaps contact Blue Nile via Live Chat to reserve the diamond and to ask that their gemologist pull the diamond to see if it is eye-clean, and to confirm the strong blue fluor does not present as as hazy/oily in the diamond (very rare but wise to check).

2. 0.73ct H-VS1 round with a 56% table and a 35.5% crown, and medium blue fluorescence ($2453): http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-details/LD07434991

I ran the HCA tool, and it received a 1.3 Total Score, and falls within the white-bordered AGS 0 candidate box.

I also ran the AGA Cut Class Tool, and the total score was 1B (receiving 1As in all categories, excepting a 2A for crown angle).

This is a VS1 diamond, with twinning wisp and feather as the listed inclusions, and while I don't think there would be any issues as to clarity or the medium blue fluor, it is always helpful to have it confirmed by the vendor.

Out of these 2 candidates, I prefer the first (as long as it is confirmed eye-clean and no ill effects of the strong blue fluor), due to its just-over 3/4 carat size, its table/crown combo, and the fact it will face up apx 5.9mm so to me basically 6mm.

Blue Nile has an excellent return policy; if either diamond appeals to you and you have the time, I'd suggest having the stone shipped to you loose so you can inspect in various lighting conditions while within the return period. If it passes muster for you, then proceed with the setting.

Good luck!

Thank you everyone for your suggestions.
Marymm- I think your first suggestion is very interesting. The numbers look very good. I have never bought a diamond from bluenile though so I have sent them an email and asked for a photo and will see how it goes.
Queenie- I don't live in the US, but thanks for the suggestion, I will look into ID jewellery.
Girlguineapig- I thought those stones at jamesallen looks interesting, although it's a bit hard to choose between the 3. I will keep an eye out for them.
