Engagement Ring Advice

Hello all,

I've been lurking for a couple weeks, but as I'm getting close to being ready to pull the trigger on an engagement ring, I wanted to hear some thoughts about what I'm thinking. So my total budget is right about $4k and I know my lady is set on a halo style ring. Right now the best I have found for this budget is this setting from James Allen and this diamond from Whiteflash. Also, while I know this isn't the lab grown section, I will add she is also not opposed to lab grown and I have one lab grown diamond I'm looking at, but I'll hold off on talking more on that until someone tells me if I'm okay to discuss that in this thread. As far as the setting goes, if I get this diamond I can do the setting in platinum and still come in under budget, but I wouldn't be opposed to getting it in white gold if there was a better option for the diamond that took up more of my budget. Any recommendations or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I would recommend getting the diamond and the setting from the same place. Usually there is an extra fee to set an outside stone in a setting and it does not protect you well if the stone is damaged during the setting process. For an ES diamond that is one of the better ones that I have seen.

Thanks for the reply! I don't really mind the extra charge for setting in an outside diamond, but I was definitely a little concerned about damage during the setting process. I would really prefer to keep the diamond at least pretty close to .75ct, so if I had to stick with one company for the ring and diamond I would probably stick with James Allen, as I'm not sure with the prices at Whiteflash I would be able to do that. I think I probably put more importance on cut than my girlfriend, so maybe James Allen has a stone that would be good enough to go through them. I'll take another look at their inventory.
