The proposal: Since I was the one that picked out and ordered the ring, surprising me was a challenge. My honey arranged to do the proposal at a near by Restaurant, with our close friends there. He told me that we were meeting his friend Jake and his gf at the restaurant for Happy Hour, before our friend Jake was leaving to LA for the weekend. Ok, well I was kind of suspicious because my boyfriend seemed a little nervous throughout the day, and he got a little more dressed up than he normally does for Happy Hour out with friends. I was hoping that he was going to propose, as his nervousness was making me nervous, and I couldn''t wait to get it over with! We go into the bar area of the restaurant. It''s an old craftsman style house that''s been renovated into a beautiful restaurant. Even the bar area is lovely! Anyway, we walk in and my friends magically appear. I know what''s about to happen. He gets down on one knee and proposes, and slips the sparkling ring on my finger. After that we are lead into our own private dining area where we have a champagne toast and then the chef serves us a 5-course meal, designed especially for us! I have a lot of pictures, so I’ll post a little bit of everything. Before I post the pics, I do have some concerns that I have regarding the clarity of my stone, which I put below the specs.
Here are diamond specs:
1.04 Cushion Brilliant
Culet: medium
Flor: none
measurments: 6.87 x 5.73 x 3.54 (1.2 lw ratio)
Color: G
Clarity VS2 (I think it''s closer to SI1)
Polish: good
Symm: good
depth: 61.8%
table: 62%
GIA Certified
The setting:
James Allen Platinum French cut pave
(It’s incredibly dainty and beautiful in person!!)
So, I have posted some threads about my cushion search as well as my setting challenges. I decided to bite the bullet and go with a cushion from JA. I decided to order it already set, so that it would be more of a surprise when I got it, versus having the stone shipped to look at it before setting it. It''s a gorgeous ring, and I love it, however I''m upset that I can see the inclusions. They are very small, but I can see the tiny black specks with my hand about 12 inches from my face.
I received excellent customer service and was guaranteed for it to be eye clean from all angles. For anyone with questions about a stone, I''d make sure I would talk to the gemologist one on one. I told my customer service gal that I didn''t want to be able to see any bit of black speck in my stone, without magnification. So, I guess the gemologist misunderstood my expectation for it being eye clean. It''s super sparkly, and we got a really good price on it. I''m also attached to it as my honey did propose to me with it.
Our budget was $5,000.00 total (including my wedding band) I went with the JA platinum French cut pave which is $850, with matching wedding band for $800) The stone was only $3,600, so I feel like we got a pretty good deal on it. I took a lot of time to find a cushion with chunky faceting that was in my price range and one that had a good face up size. I think it looks pretty big for a 1 C cushion. I have found a similar stone to mine, except it’s an H color, VS1 same carat, similar spread for $500 more. I’m not sure if I should suck it up and deal with the inclusions, or fork out more money for one that has no visible inclusions. I really do love my stone; just hate the inclusions that I can see so easy. No one else can see them or has noticed them, but of course, it bothers me that I can.
