Hey PS Experts!

I've been a casual follower of the site for a couple of months and wanted to get some early help as I start planning to purchase an engagement ring. Now I don't plan to pop the big question until the fall, but I want to make sure my research is pointing me in the right direction, and I do my due diligence as I start to think about my purchase.

The ideal ring/diamond would be a 3ct cushion cut, colorless, VS2 or better clarity (haven't read enough here). Single Halo, micropave setting. The top end of my budget would be 35-40k, but again I am new to the pricing of everything and that is just based off what I have seen.

While I'm not ready to buy just yet I want to make sure my budget is reasonable, and I'm starting with the right sources to get the best I can as I don't have an endless amount of free time to research! Really appreciate the help in advance!

Not a cushion expert, but James allen has some nice looking stones between 2-3ct, and any diamond over 30k = free ring (1.5k off any ring). So given that, I think you'll be ok between 35-40k as long as you don't need D-E color for cultural reasons.

Also, brian gavin diamonds has incredible cushion cuts if/when you're ready.

You need to gather some data about the soon to be Mrs so you get this right.

1. You need to determine her color sensitivity. "Colorless" can mean different things to different people. Depending on her sensitivity (and tolerance) that may translate to an F+ color, or possibly an I+ color. Price swings between F and I are considerable at the 3 carat range. It's very important you get color right for the wearer to enjoy the stone.

2. What type of cushion does she like? More squarish, or more rectangle? Chunky facets or crushed ice? The BGD cushion already suggested is awesome in the fact it's a hearts & arrow (H&A) type stone, but because of the way it's faceted, it can look like a round. I like chunky facets and August Vintage has an ideal cut cushion line that may be pleasing to her (and you) if you guys prefer this style.

thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for! I should have been a bit more clear, was hoping to keep the color F+, square cushion, and chunky facets.

If you want chunky facets then you won't find better than August vintage (Imho). They are incredible looking.
