Hey all, Im new here and of course looking for a little help. First off, Ive been browsing and I think its great to see such praise for the choice to have colored stones in e rings.

Ive been through several rings and just havent been happy! Im currently just wearing my asscher cut dia eternity on a daily basis, but would really like to add a steady e ring to go with it.

Ive been thinking about a pink stone, but not sure. More and more the greens and blues have been catching my eye. I adore simplier settings like the following:
http://www.myjewelrysource.com/tourmaline_rings/gr9096_green-tourmaline-ring.htm
http://www.myjewelrysource.com/aquamarine_rings/gr1056_aquamarine-rings.htm
(and I actually like those stones as well and Im more partial to the second setting). Im also worried how well my band would set with something in this type of setting. Online seems to be the way Ill be going because I just cant find anything Im happy with around here.

How would an aquamarine or a tourmaline hold up as an engagement ring? Im not really a sapphire girl, (and Im steering away from rubies because my set from my previous marriage contained rubies). Im also someone that removes my rings while cleaning, doing things around the house, etc.

Anyway, any input is greatly appreciated.

It depends how often your going to wear it and the type of setting. You said you aren't really a sapphire person but they are very durable and do come in a lot of colors, greens, teals etc. Spinel is also a good option if you are into pinks because it is pretty strong.
Someone on this site had an e ring made with a green tourmaline and it came out just beautiful.

You might also consider tsavorite, it's green and stronger than tourmaline.

Hi Amanda

Welcome to Pricescope!

I like the idea of a colored stone for your ering. the color you choose, will be a personal choice.

I actually own the 2nd setting you posted from my jewelry source. It is a RHR with a pink topaz. I love it! I ordered it as a semimount for $429 from them.
The diamonds are small but they have a great sparkle to them, just right!
You can ask them to just send you a sem mount if you want to choose your own stone, which made me more comfortable.

Here is the link to my thread: my oval splitshank ring with pink topaz
and here is the link from when it had a darker stone, a rhodolite garnet... my splitshank oval rhodo ring!

I would choose this setting if it was me

Just let me know if you would like any other pics, too!!

BTW, the gren ring innerkitten mentioned is Pokey''s tsavorite, done by Leon Mege... it''s beautiful!

Welcome Welcome!!

Sounds like a wonderful choice to have a colored E-ring. You will find pleny of support for your idea here!!!

I agree that a colored E-ring is a very personal choice when it comes to color.

I understand about the sapphire E-ring.. Although I know that they come in many colors... I have never felt an overwhelming desire to own one. However, I do covet, garnets, (including tzavorites) tourmalines (I love the blue green, forest green ones) Topaz.. (love this blue) and real windex blue paribias.. yummmm...

I have seen some beautiful pinks and reds..(spinels) here as well.

However, I think that with a colored stone, you are going to be looking for something that speaks to you and jumps at you. Although all of these colors are beautiful... the orangey fire spoke to me.. so you may see it in the cool blue of an aquamarine and the zesty tourmaline.

Tourmaline and Auqamarine would be fine choices for E-rings.. I have seen both types. As with ALL gemstones, you have to be careful. But don''t let a MOHS scale of 6.5 or 7.5 scare you into buying a sapphire.

Good luck!!

Thanks for the info gals. Its great to find people that dont think Im nutty for NOT wanting a diamond. :)

That really is a beautiful setting, my kinda deal. and what a pretty topaz! great color. thanks for the photos.

do you think a band could sit next to that setting without being too akward? (mines a 3ct total).

Colored e-rings are so beautiful in my opinion- here''s pokey''s Leon Mege tsavorite (green garnet)- absolutely beautiful. It''s 2.39 carats-

Amanda, is it a 3ct diamond band?? What shape are the stones and can you post a pic? Also, do you know your ring size?

Yep... 3 ct total eternity asscher cut diamond band. Im a size 7.

Ive already emailed with a lady about that setting and I think im really decided on it. They gave me a pricing quote for a matching band, but it would be concave to fit the e ring. I may be weird, but I really prefer rings that dont sit totally flush. Plus im so attached to this band I have now.

I think if anything I may just replace it with a pave band with probably 1ct total or so.

which setting is it that you are choosing? The my jewelry source one?

yeah, I think thats the way Im going.

yeah!!!!

you have 30 days to decide whether or not to return it, which is great too!

Have you settled on a color, or not yet??

yeah I am excited for you!!
