DSS- Diamond shrinkage syndrome...

This! I have recurring intermittent DSS... some days I'm like, "HOT DAMN! My ring looks big! BUSINESS!!!" and other times it's more like, "Well... if I were to upgrade with the same setting, would DH notice?? Hmmm...."

soxfan, you have a beautiful ring there!! In fact,for the first time ever, you are making me think: 'HALO'.

Because I live in Australia, I think there is a point beyond which an engagement ring should possibly not go.
For example, I have a case of DSS with my 1.6c stone.
However, I don't think I can go much beyond 2c for the e-ring setting! (tiffany-style 6-claw solitaire).
And I'm not at all sure the cost of the upgrade would be worth the teeny increase in size.
But....halo....?

There are a number of reasons why I won't go over 2.5ct for a center stone. Variety is what I'm all about; my pear e-ring has a 2.4 center stone and my round has a 2.1. As far as shrinkage goes, there are definitely times that I wish for fingers that would shrink to smaller than a 6.5.

True, you must have! But then, you do have another passport lol...

My sister nearly dumped her guy because the e-ring he surprised her with was 'not modest enough' to be a 'proper' engagement ring! True story! She had a kind of crisis over it, and refused to tell anyone it was her e-ring for months!


But back to DSS it is strange how DSS is intermittent ... From 'BUSINESS' to b.s. depending on how clean it is, or the light environment, my mood etc etc etc.

For this reason I like the idea of an 'upper limit' for diamond size ...2.5ct seems pretty much spot on....a good balance in terms of aesthetics, practicality, and of course discovering new jewels to love!!

Sox, your diamond and setting are stunning and I believe there's gotta be something very satisfying in being thrilled to death with every part of your ring. How awesome for you.
