Hey, I''m not that old!

Normally I love Chanel but I''m not loving that one either. Maybe it would look better without the bolero. I''m done for 3 weeks, and would love to check it out with you, if you''d like.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Valentino, and with red being my FAVE color, it''s perfect! Especially w/ those awesome HW earrings!

I hate that bolero. Please do. I''ll find out what time Chanel closes in the evenings and let you know.

Hi Harriet. I

the second! You are asked for honesty so .......................well i am not a fan of the first. I think it is too edgy and may look dated in pictures in years to come.
Just my opinion

Thanks for your honesty. Can I just wear jeans to City Hall? It would be cheaper and easier.

I don''t see why not! Do whatever you want! Besides, then the money saved can go to more sparklies!

I think you can wear jeans but... only if you won't regret it. I think I personally would regret it. So I'd want to wear something a least a little special. Can you just wear a nice white sundress?

http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml?id=prod93895171&catId=cat302207 I would like something like this. Simple, affordable, and festive. Plus it would look lovely with your tsavorites.

I would like something special in white. You ladies and your beautiful gowns are making me envious. On the other hand, when I think about the gems each item of clothing or pair of shoes can buy ...

That first dress looks like a gunny sack on the model and it didn''t improve any on Rachel. It just isn''t flattering on ANY body IMO. Clearly budget isn''t a big driver in your choices, I think you can do much, much better

Love, love the second one.

The first one just isn''t flattering in the body on either the model or Rachel. Just kind of lays, maybe like it needs to be taken in a bit at the waist. The detailing in the top on Rachel looks almost crooked, but that could just be from her stance. The length is appropriate (unless you have some super long legs) and I like the "edgy" aspect.

I freaking LOVE LOVE LOVE the Chanel dress. I think it's awesome. There. That's my honest opinion.

And I think women of any age can wear Chanel. My cousin is 87 and she still wears Chanel. I think it's totally age appropriate for a lady in her thiiiiird-ish decade.

But then, I love edgy fashion. It's pretty classically Chanel in it's edginess though. I love that. And I love that the Valentino number is sooooo Valentino. Yummers.

And my dream is to own a dress in the Valentino signature red. That one's a stunner. My mom wore a Valentino suit to the city hall and a Valentino gown to the evening dinner for my wedding, and I wore Valentino shoes. So you know WE are fans.

I love your choices.

I also agree,, the Chanel , even with an edge is always a classic. I don''t think looking at your pictures in years to come there will be any regret wearing that.

I think your choices are perfect, and all you really have to please is you ( and FI).

Not everyone has the same taste.. but yours is my stlye. Very elegant..

Purrfectpear,
I asked for honesty with respect to the two dresses concerned. I did not, however, ask for opinions on my budget.

Chanel is altering the dress and making it a lot more structured.

Another potential shopping buddy! Would you do ivory or gold trim? I''m thinking the latter will lend more contrast and be classically Chanel.

I don't know about the Chanel one - giant horizontal stripes (or whatever they are) scream "DANGER ZONE" to me...they just have the risk of making you look wider.

That said, I haven't seen it on you, but I think there might be more flattering options. That said, if you LOVE IT and its a done deal, then trust your instincts!

I think gold trim would definitely be more classic Chanel looking, and I''m glad to hear that Chanel will make it more structured to fit you. I think ivory trim could be very classy, as well, though, too. I''m so glad you found two dresses that you love!

That's awesome! With that bit of tweaking that would be just perfect. And the gold will be wonderful. Now for shoes...

I thought it might do that, but with a pair of stilettos, it makes me look seriously leggy.

Harleigh and Stephanie,
The seamstress tweaked and pinned for the longest time. When she was done, the dress looked like it was made for me. It did look like a sack without her touches.

Hooray!
36.gif
I''m so happy to hear that! I can''t wait to see it on you!

Congrats!

Thanks. Still lurve your dress.

I like both dresses a lot.

The Chanel is edgy and fashionable... personally, I don''t think I would regret wearing it or worry about it being too dated.

Really, practically any dress is going to look dated to some degree and there may be fringe or scallops or lace or beads that you choose now that you wouldn''t choose in a couple decades. I don''t think the bold fringe is any different in that sense to a wedding dress with ruching or a sash or any other detail that suits your taste now- it almost makes it kind of bridal without being froofroo. I think with the alternations it will be stunning. I think ivory or gold accents could work depending on what you want- ivory for a softer look, gold for a bolder look. I really do like it.

The Valentino, well... it''s Valentino. It''s gorgeous. And in red charmeuse?! Holy hot tamale! Stunning.

I think that if the Chanel is more structured and has gold-it''s a go. I love the Valentino.

Now...Gypsy. This isn''t fair. I just happened to click on that J Crew link-and there are some lovely green heels on that model''s feet. That are $225. I want to cry.

Maybe I could sell plasma...
