Hello,

Needed to make a new thread to start fresh. Over the past while I have learned a lot from PS - especially the people on this forum. Thank you so much for that!

Looking to make the PERFECT double halo cushion cut with the following characteristics:

Cut: Cuhsion Cut (Excellent or Ideal)
Ct: 0.9-1.04 (need to keep the dimenions small - 5.78 x 5.74 x 3.65mm looked to large.
Clarity: VS1 and above
Color: D-E-F

Polish and Symmetry: VG or Excellent (I think, however, GIA includes Polish and Symmetry in the overall Cut rating)

This is my favorite so far: http://www.exceldiamonds.com/Diamonds-1/GIA-Graded-Cushion-Modified-Diamond-0-9-Carat-F-Color-VVS2-Clarity-309915.html?action=email_sent and am waiting for images.

Check out these options.

All of these are winners, with great performance guaranteed (ordered from largest -> smallest):

1.088, F, SI1 (eye-clean)
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/1.088-f-si1-cushion-diamond-ags-bl-104065050002

1ct, E, VS2

.95ct, F, SI1 (eye-clean)

.86ct, E, VVS2

If you have a larger budget (and do still want that higher clarity), this stone is currently 10% off via BGD:

Should mention budget is ~$5K for the diamond.

Are you looking for a 1 stop shop to do the entire ring?

Not necessarily...still deciding if I should get it made at EGD or elsewhere.

Currently have this on hold: http://www.gia.edu/cs/Satellite?reportno=5151445523&childpagename=GIA%2FPage%2FReportCheck&pagename=GIA%2FDispatcher&c=Page&cid=1355954554547

I have some pics I can post but my feeling is if the dimenions in my initial post looked to big that this one will as well. Hence I decided to drop the ct. What I didn't expect was seeing 0.9ct with larger dimensions.

The .95ct, F, SI1 that I posted above would still be close to this price point:

This one looks amazing! The antique cushion vs. a modified cushion would create more fire and brilliance as well, correct? Thereby, making it sparkle. Should I be worried about the dimensions or all the symbols on the GIA reference diagram?

Asking for images for random stones you pick is a waste of your's and Excel's time. Either tell ERD what you are looking for or focus on cushions that already have pictures from Good Old Gold, James Allen, Brian Gavin Signature, Blue Nile Signature, B2C, and Excel.

I understand your perspective and do appreciate the input. When I spoke to ERD I thought I knew what I wanted - I actually found the diamond and was told it was a great pick by them. However, when we tried on a smaller dimension stone this weekend we thought it was too large, and thereby the ERD stone would be as well. I spoke to ERD about my concerns and he thought the stone would be fine, but I can't help going back to the dimensions of the stone we tried this weekend which is smaller then the ERD stone.

The stones at Excel seem very nice and I narrowed them down using GIA reports. They don't have pictures on the site for them but I wouldn't want to rule them out for that reason.

I also have this image in my head that I want to get a stone within strict criteria; I need to learn to look outside of those - similar to the eye clean SI1 at Good Old Gold.

Just call/email Jon over at Good Old Gold and he'll be able to give you more details about the stone, and possibly even a video.

He will be able to let you know if any of the inclusions are of concern, and answer any other questions you might have.

Best of luck!

These are the ones I am currently deciding between:

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/10787/
-Spoke with Matt this afternoon and it looks like a beautiful diamond - I mentioned I am a little worried about the measurements given that we thought a 5.78 x 5.74 x 3.65mm was too large and this is a 5.99 x 5.51 x 3.78mm

http://www.bluenile.com/cushion-cut-diamond-1-carat-or-less-signature-ideal-cut-f-color-vvs2-clarity_LD03884480
-I like this one here - I think the dimensions are good. I am not too sure how to read the GCAL report but it seems like a good diamond. Has a needle and pinpoint.

http://www.bluenile.com/cushion-cut-diamond-1-carat-or-less-signature-ideal-cut-f-color-vs1-clarity_LD03884495
-Very similar to the one above except VS1 clarity. Has a feather and a cloud.

One question I had is that the GIA for the GOG states it's an Antique cut, however, the GIA for Bluenile Signature states it's a modified cut - but isn't really a modern cut?

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/0.90-carat-e-color-vs1-clarity-sku-172653
-I really like these, especially the first one, but they are modified. I assume I would notice a large difference between this and say the GOG or a bluenile signature?

I know there are quite a few links, any thoughts would be great! Thanks in advance! :D

If you think the overall effect is going to be too big put one halo around it instead of two.

I agree. I would rather have a larger center (or the same size) with a single halo. Just a personal preference, though.

The August Vintage at GOG and the BN H&A cushions look great. Ask your gf if she would rather have a square modern or a rectangular antique. GIA doesn't call them modern. You can have modern style cushions in a brilliant or modified brilliant.

The other ones are not in the same league.

Thanks Julie! I will send her some pics today! No pics on the bluenile just the GCAL report - is that good enough?

EDIT 1: Was going to send some pics but I think I want to make this one on my own and I think the square one looks better. As such, it looks like the GOG is a rectangle vs. Bluenile being a square.

No worries, VS1 is very fine quality.

Spoke to ERD as I like their double halo designs. Told him about the BN H&A diamond and he put some doubts in my mind about it mentioning that a cushion cut with H&A seems unatural etc... From what I've read, especially in CharmyPoos post - granted it doesnt mention BN H&A cushion, the facets are larger and the scintillation should far exceed any crushed ice diamond. Would you agree?
