So, I made a HUGE mistake by going to Cartier the other day and trying on the pave 1895 ring. I am in love. I mean, true love (and lust!). So (note: here is where I ask you not to judge) I looked into selling my e-ring and perhaps purchase the 1895 pave ring...

I sent off pics of my ring, copies of the paper work and got back quotes....from $7,000-$10,000.00!!!!

Now, I realize I got a steal on the ring, but I do think it was worth a little more than that...so now I am wondering, if I do decide to sell it, is Ebay the best option?!?!?! Consignment?!?!?!

I guess I am in huge shock that a 1.5 Tiffany e-ring (in a decent nice style, with great stats) that has an appraisal at $27,200 over a year ago would only fetch $7,000?!?!?!

I know this is crazy, and all of you want to kill me now for wanting to change my ring again

Ouch!

How about keeping your stone and having a similar setting to the Cartier made for it?

did you check with signed pieces? i wouldn't necessarily consign with them b/c i think they take 50% but you could at least see what they would consign it for or give you for it. I'd also send pearlmans an email or call them and tell them what you have and what they think they could sell it for. they only take 15% which is a much nicer number IMO. I personally wouldn't do ebay.

OMG!!!! Dani, why do you want to change your ring again? I LOVE your ring!! Its so beautiful!!!!

eta: do you want a round stone now, or can you keep your ec and put it in a similar type pave settting?

Where did you get quotes from? I agree you might want to try pearlman''s and signed pieces if you haven''t already.

I''m not judging you, because I change my mind all the time too, but you might want to consider buying from a place that has an upgrade policy with the money that you fetch for your ring in case you find yourself in the position again that you want a change. I would also think long and hard about whether this is the ring for you and how long you are willing to keep the new ring before getting a change again. Each time you sell and trade in without an upgrade policy you take a substantial hit to the value of the ring.

Diamante-I would hate taking apart a Tiffany & Co Ring

Dani-I know, I am bad huh! I loved the round in that Cartier setting

Perhaps it will change....but I was mainly shocked at how little I was offered for the ring!

who gave you the offer for the ring?

mrssalvo- Totally will look into them. Sent e-mails already.

KCoursolle- I am going to think long and hard (and may look at other similar rings at places with reasonable trade-up policies). Luckily, until now, none of my changes would have taken a hit....this would.

I tried two larger antique and estate jewelers (one in SF with a great rep) and the other down in LA. Not any known PS vendors...

However, to be honest, with that low of offers (and if they stay in that range), I may just have a similar ring made my WF and keep mine....

cool, definitely let us know what they say.

I'm not judging you either, Dani....I completely understand about wanting a change every now and then...sometimes I get bitten by that bug a little bit too, but for now I still completely adore my ring...

I agree with Kcoursolle though...if you do end up changing your ring, go with a vendor that offers a 100% trade in/upgrade policy. This way, if you ever want to change again (which would most likely be very possible given your history-LOL) you wont take a financial hit. Crazy girl!!!

I''d wait then until you hear back from pearlmans and SP. the estate jewelers here will offer only 1/3 of the value. my guess is that is what the one''s you went to are doing as well. pearlmans will actually let you set the price you want to get and if they think it''s too high they will tell you and you can agree upon the price with them. you''ll do better consigning though rather than having any of them buy you out.

I know the feeling very well, that there is always something around the corner just a little more beautiful. It is hard for some of us to choose settings, because it is hard to narrow it down to one.

My caution to you is that unless you stop looking at rings on the internet and in jewelry stores, you are always going to find another one that you love and wish you had.

If I were you, I''d keep the Tiffany ring especially since it was a good deal, and hope to eventually find the Cartier ring second hand. Then you can wear the Tiffany ring on your right hand, since 3 stone rings make great right hand rings. Or even if you can''t find it second hand, perhaps your husband can get you the Cartier ring if you still really love it for your 5th or 10th anniversary. You can start your "dream ring" savings account now! And then if in 5-10 years you like something else even better, you can go for that instead!

DiamondSeeker- I think you are right

It is SO hard to be a diamond lover

I wish I didn''t have this...this disease!!!!!!

I was thinking of seeing whether or not I could "trade" SP for their pave Cartier 1895 ring, with mine, but then realized that would be a bad trade for me...I think.

I agree with this. If you aren''t getting a good price on your current e-ring, I would definitely keep it and for a special occasion you could get the cartier one. I adore the ring that you have now and especially the fact that you got it for such a good price. Let us know how you get on with signedpieces and pearlmans.

Out of couriousity..do you have a picture of this Cartier ring?

I agree with Diamondseeker..I HAD to jump out of the ring shopping process because I visit every store in my area and constantly find rings I love. So, with some urging from my bf..I''ve stopped. All my favorites are beautiful and I would be lucky to get any of them..so I''m done looking. Now, in a couple of years..who knows!

Please keep the Tiffany ring.

I like the suggestion to save up your $$$ and hunt for a bargain Cartier. You seem to have the gift, and I bet you could do it.

No judging here. Did think it was interesting that your \"New and Final Tiffany Ering\" thread is almost a year to the *day* ago. And that you're still 6 months away from the wedding?

Is it possible you're funneling some wedding-planning stress into an area that's more "fun"?

I''m curious what your FI thinks of this plan?

I''m sorry to hear that you can''t get much for your ring. I have no idea about selling used rings, so I can''t offer any advice on that front.

I do have to say, though, that if you truly aren''t completely satisfied with your current e-ring, perhaps it isn''t bad to trade it in for one that you can love forever. I''ve only had mine for five months, but I''ve tried on so many other rings in that time and I''ve never seen another one that I love nearly as much as mine--so maybe this isn''t *the* ring for you.

Good luck! I hope you find what you''re looking for.

I think you need to stay away from jewelry stores. I know you love it, but most of us would see it and say well that was gorgeous and move on.

I adore your ring, you were so over the moon about it. Remember those feelings!!!

Concerning the price of the ring you''re trying to sell. Could you post some pictures up as well as some stats on it?

I''m sure there are parties on here that would be interested in it.

I say, do whatever makes you happy!!!!!

I was searching around on ebay, and this was a completed listing that had a 1.5ct H VVS1 emerald cut from tiffanys that sold for $13.5k and had an appraisal for 25k.
This is the auction number if you want to look at it. Auction # 150206272679. I've noticed diamonds going for higher prices than normal on ebay right now, so it may be something to give consideration to. Good luck!

You loved that ring so much...I think you must be just jonesing for a project or something! Take a deep breath and hopefully it will pass!

MP we aren''t allowed to self promote or use this website to further our own financial gain. UCLA belle does have pics of her ring posted as she realized we''d kill her if she didn''t post them. LOL. If she consigns her ring through Pearlmans or someplace else, I''m sure you could contract the vendor and request purchase information that way.

I'd take a deep breath and wait a few months. What if you decide that you don't want the Cartier and are in love with your Tiffany ring after all? What if you bought the Cartier and missed your old ring. Or, what if your bought the Cartier and later found yet another ring you like better.

I'm impulsive and mind changey myself, and I'm learning to sloooow down a bit and give things time. OR, if I really want something, I get a colored stone version to satiate myself.

I don't judge, though, because I can certainly relate to grass is greener.

I'd think about it for awhile...

OK, not judging...well, OK, maybe a little.

I would say take a breath and STOP. Pause. Just for...say, six months. See if the bug is still biting then. And for goodness sake, stop looking around in the meantime! If you seek, you shall find, so the key is to stop ACTIVELY looking and trying on rings.

I agree you should take your time to make sure this is REALLY what you want to do.

I thought I seen your ring for sale..somewhere..earlier today??
