Do you wear your ring all the time?

I work from home and I don’t wear my rings during that time. My hobbies - mushroom foraging, indoor climbing, pottery, and cooking - aren’t very compatible with rings, so I end up wearing Neva maybe 3-6 times a month.

Is that Neva? If she were mine she'd be living in a crate like a show dog.

Question for @Tonks and the others that wear e-rings most of the time, do you knock them around much?
I barely tap a prong and I’m, “omg!!” as I’m running off to get my loupe!
My MIL, rest her soul, wore a 2.5+ ct. 5-stone diamond ring. She never took it off even for gardening, in the pool, etc. Boy were those stones a mess, chipped and abraded. She lost the diamond out of her e-ring twice and managed to find it both times! Anyway, I only wear my e-ring when I leave the house and sometimes not even then.

Interesting question!

Let me start by saying Viv is insured. Given that, to me, when you spend this kind of money on a piece you should wear it as much as possible. I considered that when picking a setting and my setting is sturdy and well made, and made to wear. I did some soul searching when purchasing Viv, and it was important to me to end up with a piece I would wear, not keep in a box.

That said, my definition of wearing all the time may be different than your MIL’s. I would not keep Viv on doing an activity that could damage the stone or setting. No gardening, for example (not that I remember the last time I gardened). I keep a ring dish in the kitchen (away from the sink!) and if I’m doing something messy, rings go there. But I put them back on the minute I’m done. I wouldn’t wear them to the pool because sunscreen and diamonds are not a great combo. If I’m using chemicals like nail polish remover or harsh cleaners, rings are in a dish. But in my house, out and about, doing things that are not inherently risky to diamonds, rings are on.

I have occasionally knocked my ring, but I almost always loupe it afterwards (does everyone else have an upstairs loupe and a downstairs loupe?). I actually feel better about knocking Viv than my previous stone—it was a radiant and the sides were exposed. I remember hitting it HARD on things several times and being so nervous because there was a huge expanse of girdle just bare. It was always fine. Viv has six prongs so I think that helps a lot.

At the end of the day I want to enjoy the stones I have. I try to be reasonable about taking them off in situations that could cause them damage. I keep the big ones insured. After that the only thing left is to wear them and enjoy.

Last thing: you won’t believe this but the piece I actually damaged by knocking it is not a ring. It was my studs (my CBIs). They were in my ears and I reached up quickly to put my hair in a ponytail. My hand knocked my ear pretty hard. Searing pain. I actually thought I had ripped the stud from my lobe. Thankfully I had not, but what I did do was knock it hard enough that the platinum post bent. A local jeweler was able to straighten it back out for me and reassure me that the stone was still secure.

I would not have predicted that. I swear I did not punch myself in the head and I’m still stunned that happened.

I sometimes wear them around the house (wish I could be that person that never removes them!!), and almost always when I am out. I find I bang my hands around A LOT. So maybe it's better they're usually off, at home  @Tonks, I had a similar experience last week. My nails (which are long), caught on my diamond stud in my ear, as I was waving some hair out of my face. Oh my goodness, it was so painful. And I thought for a moment, I tore part of my earlobe!! Or at least stretched it! All was good.

I always love your well written posts Tonks!
I have Viv’s little sister, also in the Vatche U-113 which is also insured. I wish I could be more c’ est la vie and less ocd! Omg, a scratch! :lol-2:

I love scratches! They tell a story or life, love, loss & wisdom. I have always felt like this since I inherited my grandmothers 22ct gold wedding ring. It needed taking down a tiny size (so no cutting) & the jeweller polished it.

He presented it back too me all shiny & as good as new. I didn’t recognise it as my grandmothers anymore & I cried. Her decades of life, of losing a child in infancy, having mother, grandfather going to war & coming back a hero, hardships, money, my mother & the joy she & our family brought to her, all gone at a polishers wheel.

Consequently if I EVER take my rings in for cleaning or work (except my never removed wedding ring, which after 18 years now also has a patina & story) my jeweller knows instinctively not to polish them. He’d never had anybody collect a ring before & cry in his beautiful office, so he learned his lesson & has always asked clients about polishing ever since.
