Do you think this is the top of the top cut diamond according to this AGSL light performance map?

Hello All,

I need some expert opinions on this AGSL light performance map, I would like to know if this is what a top of the top, best of the best cut diamond would look like.

In search for the best of the best diamond for my fiancee, I ended up opting to go with a custom-cut diamond with a top diamond cutter; they are known to be one of the best diamond cutters in the world and are known for their precise hearts and arrows diamonds. I chose them despite of a considerable premium because I really want to give my fiancee the very best.

After waiting for 7 weeks, the diamond was finished and it was considered to be top of the line by this diamond cutter. However, I somehow find the light performance map in the AGS report look a bit strange/sloppy when comparing it to those of the other super ideal cut diamonds. To me, the bottoms of the arrowheads look crooked (blue pieces sticking out at the bottom of the arrowheads), and there is a cluster of large blue pieces around the center.

I have circled the areas which I think might be problematic.

Could someone give me some expert opinions if this is what the light performance of the best of the best diamond should look like? Is there anything wrong with it?

Thank you so much for your help!

No, it is not a perfect hearts and arrows diamond. Here is a link to a random Whiteflash super ideal cut diamond for you to compare images with: https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3986369.htm. Do you have an actual ASET image of the diamond? The AGSL one from the certificate is computer generated I believe. Do you have any other images of the diamond?

Just curious as to who told you this was one of the best diamond cutters in the world? Depending on the real images, it could be a nice stone but not as perfect as super ideal hearts and arrows stones we see here.

Hi MissGotRocks,

Thank you so much for your input! Below is the actual ASET image (obtained from their website):

Does the ASET image look fine? If so, why does the AGS one look so messy? Which should I trust?

I found this particular diamond cutter by researching on the Pricescope forum =) Many people on this forum recommend this diamond cutter.

Thanks again!

generated images are not accurate enough for this level of detail.

Yes the actual ASET is much better - the previous one from the certificate is computer generated so not as accurate.

Yes looks H&A BG diamond. The clustering is because of high pav/high crown combo (within ideal range) that BG likes.

This is not a bad thing.

Hi Karl_K,

Thanks for your help. So I should just disregard the AGS generated image entirely in my purchase decision? Does the AGS generated image hold any significance at all?

In trade, do people actually use the AGS generated image?

Thanks!

AGS generated image are better than nothing if you don't have the real image. If you have the real image, then disregard the AGS generated image (unless it's a very poorly taken image).

There will be some discrepancies in obstruction (blue) colour because the angle of obstruction in the computer generated image is generally more than the actual ASET image.

Ah, you mean, in layman's terms, that the AGS computer actually pretends a person's head is bigger than an ASET scope does, therefore more lights will be blocked, and thus more blue color will be seen in the generated image than in an ASET image?

yes
The scanners are not perfect so the generated images are not perfect.
I agree with what @gm89uk said.

@lorentz - can you share with us the crown/pavilion angles on this stone or share the entire AGS cert with us? Just curious about the numbers!

If you had to go custom to get the specs you wanted, I am intrigued as to what those specs might be... ;) :D

It looks like it’s a stunning diamond, your lady is quite lucky!

Looks like a beautiful stone from BGD. Is it a BG black?

I think all they can do is to guarantee the minimum color and the clarity. I don't think cutters can guarantee the exact % and angles on any custom orders.
