No, I don't know anyone who has it. But I am wondering whether my parents and I already had this back in December / January. The symptoms fit, although only my mom had any breathing issues. We are in PA and have New York state on the northern border and Ohio to the west, both of which are an easy drive away + have many cases now. People from here travel to those two states for recreation and gambling. It won't surprise me to see loads of cases diagnosed locally testing starts in earnest. My sister is a nurse and she says hospitals have seen lots of serious flu-like respiratory cases that weren't flu, starting last fall.

When I first responded to this thread on 3/16, I said that I didn't know anyone personally with CV, but now 1 week later, the answer as changed. We received an email from HR that one of our employees tested positive on Friday, so they had to sanitize the facilities over the weekend. I know the employee at hand because they are a person of importance who has to travel extensively and reported not feeling well last week.

@swaye2010 , like the others-I am praying for you and your family and am so sorry.:(

Please excuse-This is a bit off-topic and maybe covered already, but does anyone know of anyone who tested positive for flu and ended up actually having this instead?

I have the flu, they have misdiagnosed people with the flu sometimes it takes a few days for the tests to come back this has been where there have been errors made - a nasal swab will confirm if it is the flu - they don't get those wrong. It's the waiting period of finding out in some places where people make incorrect assumptions.

I was cracking jokes about getting both at once when I got the flu and it turns out yes you can get both at the same time. I had to take my son to a medical centre last week that was testing patients with COVID - 19 because he fell over at school onto concrete and we thought he had broken his wrist, and that was the only place we could get into other than waiting for many many hours at a hospital. Everyone was keeping away from me like I had the plague. The doctor there said yes you can get both at once.

People self misdiagnose and if they don't test for one or they other they can get it wrong. If you test positive for the flu you probably don't have it as well unless you have both at the same time, which is highly unlikely but not impossible.

Yikes! I hope your son is okay and feeling better? Hope you are feeling better, too. Thank you for taking the time to respond to this. I feel like there is so much we don't know yet.

I ask because we had 3/4 family test negative for flu in our house. Well, actually 2/3 since I did self-diagnose since it behaved like flu. Being on remicade, I have to be careful not to catch something worse going out sick so my rheumy will usually go ahead and give me a tamiflu course. My husband's doc felt it was flu in spite of the negative test and didn't test further. (This was early March.) Daughter was positive for flu A, son negative. When people in my house started getting sick after me, it felt certain it was flu, but it was the worst flu EVER. I was literally praying to make it through. And there were some strange symptoms that are only now being linked with CV, so I can't help but be a little concerned. Three weeks later, my chest and lungs are still not acting normally even though my flu symptoms have subsided. My husband also has some lingering stuff. I know that can happen with flu as well, but I guess I've never had a pneumonia after flu before.

The good news? None of us have been anywhere in the last three weeks except outside in our yard or going for a ride and not getting out. Even if it was *only* the flu, we figured no one needed that either! Kids home, vacations canceled, had a family member shop for us during the first two weeks and drop on porch, and have been working from home. So I guess the silver lining is knowing that more than likely we would have infected no one. Just makes me wonder about the accuracy of all of this testing!

@Siamese Kitty - I hope that you are all O.K and feeling better now, yes that IS a big problem not enough COVID - 19 test kits and unless you can prove you have either been overseas or in contact with someone that had or has it they more than likely will not test you. If you have any chest or breathing issues go to a hospital or medical centre, if you have breathing issues hopefully there is somewhere you can go and specifically ask to be tested for it.

We had to sit in that medical centre for an hour and a half and then at the X-Ray place but my son has a bad sprain nothing is broken or fractured thankfully. I was mindful however that we did have to sit in a place that had surfaces and people possibly with COVID - 19 so that sucked but what can you do.....

Thank you @arkieb1 . I do feel like I'm improving so I guess that's good. My doc pretty much told me that even if it were CV, I'd want to treat the symptoms at home and not risk more exposure unless, like you said, breathing gets rough. Hopefully that won't happen! I'm just staying in as long as I can.:) We have food, kitties have food, and I've got a child to homeschool now with a stir crazy toddler. Trying to find the good moments in this. It really is nice for our family to be together at home.

I am such a crazy germaphobe, so I can totally see how the waiting room was stressful for you! I hope you and your family stay well. I guess last week was possibly safer than this week? (knock on wood) In any case, that is great news your son's wrist wasn't more serious. Hopefully that means you will not need to go back any time soon.

Thank you again for your thoughts and please take care!

I really don’t want to start a thread about this, so I’m hoping Kenny won’t mind if I post it here.

A week ago tomorrow, another of my boyfriend’s young nephews committed suicide. As far as we know absolutely saw this coming - no one had seen any signs of depression. He was only 27 years old, and we were at his wedding just last August. He had moved back to California just a few months before. I had been a Facebook friend long before that And I knew that we shared some common interests, and I knew a bit about his brash side. I was so looking forward to getting to know him and his bride, and watching their family grow.

Anyhow, less than a week ago we woke up to the news that he had apparently committed suicide. We did rush up the hill and met his parents and wife there and expresses our shock and sorrow - the statewide shelter in place order hadn’t been issued yet, we’d been told there would be an impromptu family memorial service at the “chapel” there, which turned out to be the case. (On the lighter side, it seems like one of the mortuary service workers was watching us like a hawk while we were there. We figured he was just watching to make sure no one walked off with one of their big bottles of hand sanitizer!)

That same day, another niece and nephew flew in from elsewhere in the country bringing with them a total of four kids and one other spouse. Everyone is staying with mom and dad and we’re seeing pictures of the kids running playing together etc. I’ll totally understandable, and yet…

Yesterday we received a virtual invite to attend a memorial gathering at the home of a family member. I do totally get their desire to have this gathering. However, as much as we’d love to be there, to remember this young man and to support his family, we have sent our regrets and condolences instead.

Bumping up this thread. I just changed my vote as unfortunately I personally know a few people now with Covid 19. My colleague who is a retinal specialist (north jersey), a good friend’s elderly parents (Manhattan), and a friend in the northwest.

Just received an email from my firm that someone in our office (of about 95 people) has it and is recovering at home right now. The person thinks they got it from someone else from contact about a week before we went to WFH. The firm won't tell us who that person is, which I do kinda understand, but now some folks are in a panic. Frankly I think if anyone else got it from them we would know by now because we've been WFH for 19 days now... ?

If you or someone you know has recovered from COVID-19, perhaps consider registering to donate your plasma or forward along this link.

You’re probably out of the woods because it’s about 2 weeks so you’re almost at 3 weeks. Fingers crossed. Greg’s colleague’s nanny was just diagnosed so they moved out of their home. I guess it’s easier than cleaning it. I think eventually most of us will have had it.

Thanks , missy... Fil and mil are devastated.. And seriously panicked today

I can only imagine. I am so sorry. I find myself vacillating between calm and panic throughout the day. Just got off the phone with my parents and they worry me so.

Keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers kipari. These are challenging and scary times. I firmly believe we will be OK. You and family included. (((Hugs))).
