Do I have a Clarity Enhanced Diamond?

The reason for my question is because I steam cleaned my ring (not with a very strong steamer) above my tea kettle that was just filled with water (Brita purified) and feel the center stone (which is four separate stones) is cloudy. Could it be because distilled water was not used?

This is the ring: http://www.helzberg.com/product/2ct+tw+diamond+engagement+ring+1760897.do

I took it to an appraiser at the gemological institute and while I didn't get to speak to them I made it clear I really wanted to be sure it had no clarity enhancement. The person at the front desk gave me the appraisal and didn't mention it and when I asked if it had clarity enhancements she said for small diamonds there is most likely no clarity enhancement. It's not a ring I think will resell well so I didn't care much for the appraisal...

I don't know much about appraisals so if it was clarity enhanced would it say on the document they give you?

It was appraised for about 4000$

I would be very surprised if Helzburg is selling CE stones without disclosure and any capable appraiser can tell the difference and yes, it should be written in the report. Someone signed the report. Call them up and talk to them about it personally. Clearly communicating to you about what they saw is an important part of the appraisal process.

I don’t understand the comment about not wanting to resell being the reason for unhappiness. Was this an appraisal for resale?

Thank you for your reply, I meant I didnt care much about the value of the ring, mainly I wanted to make sure it wasn't CE enhanced

Got it. Assuming that you know you've got a genuine Helzburg piece (like you bought it directly from them for example) and given that the appraiser said nothing on the report about CE, I wouldn't be worried. A good cleaning should solve your problem. sometimes the steaming just pushes the crud around rather than blowing it off. Go visit a professional jeweler. Most will clean things for free.

Thank you for the info. I think I will take it to be steamed. Thanks again! I feel less worried now :)

Your ring is I1 to I 2 clarity so maybe you are seeing the inclusions causing the cloudiness.

The clarity is VS2 for the center stone, the side stones are I1. The side stones are actually very sparkly. The center stone was too and it is eye clean but after the steamer I felt it got dull. Can inclusions cause cloudiness? I didn't seem any cloudiness when I bought it and for many days after that.

Did the appraiser say the center diamond was VS2? The link says that the center stone is SI2-I1. If a lab didn't grade it, then it could be a little lower in clarity. Maybe cleaning it made you more aware of the clarity. If it continues to bother you, you could always replace the diamond.
