About a year ago, I got this 2.5 ct tourmaline (9x6.5) and I have been scouring the web for inspiration for setting into a pendant (you have enough rings).

I found many where I like certain elements, and not others. But finally I found an antique pendant that is utterly 100% perfect. Except it houses a 13 ct citrine (unknown dimensions).

I am not sure whether it is cast or forged, l or how it was put together, but I like the look of DK’s work and wonder (because it is antique) if he could replicate it for my much smaller tourmaline.

Here are pics of the antique I’d love the essence of for my tourmaline. I love the two tone and the articulated bail and the Greek key design and the deco vibe.

Here is my tourmaline Next to rose, white and yellow gold 74743064-7622-4301-9DDB-0572802C2C06.jpeg16CF5B45-32B1-4738-9CFE-30C9002F438F.jpegB10E0086-C496-4812-B63F-EFF4EC0FFC01.jpeg

Lovely!!! I would totally do this in white gold.

I think it is really pretty @ringo865! I dont think there would be an issue with replicating an antique piece and I'm pretty sure DK could do it.

I like it. I think your stone would really pop in white. I think DK could do a really nice job of that.

Thanks all! So you think all whit and not two-tone like the original?

You think DK would do cads? I haven’t gone custom, so I’m not sure what to expect. I was hoping he could recreate all the tiny details that I love in the inspo.

Beautiful stone!
DK for sure could do a great job on that - your inspo is very pretty too.
They'd for sure do CAD for you to approve first. Tiny details probably won't show up on the CAD tho.

Pulled these three from his Instagram
Based on this - I think his version of what you want will come out fantastic!

I would stick with all white.

My stone not exactly the same LxW ratio as the citrine in the inspo, and my tourmaline has clipped corners, but it’s close enough to get an idea.

I still kinda like the yellow gold prongs. Other thoughts?

Nothing wrong with making it 2-tone! Like the mockup, WG for the body and YG for the prongs. :appl:

I'm leaning towards the two tone like you made, as well.

I really like the all white @ringo865 it really makes the stone pop.

I’ve decided to get a quote from DK to do this pendant in 14k white (palladium) gold. I cant tell whether the melee are full or single cut. Are single cuts much more expensive? Would it make a more deco look in single cuts?

David could definitely do this for you. If you want two tone..he can do that that too. He did a two tone ring for me that came out perfectly.

Since you asked for suggestions I’m going to say this: the inspiration looks like it was a brooch and it was converted to a pendant by adding a loop and a bail. I think you could improve upon the bail and make it more consistent with the design of the pendant. The stone and inspiration are lovely and I’m excited to see your project progress.

@kgizo i would love to hear/see ideas that might improve on the bail. I actually like it like it is, articulated, but am open-minded to other options. Especially being more consistent with the design.

Also any weigh in on the melee: single or full cut?

I still like the idea of white for it all, but I think two tone is pretty.

I would personally do single cuts on it, because that's what it would have likely been on your inspiration, but it's up to you really. I prefer the softness of the single cuts, but I may be in the minority.

I really like the all white metal version so glad you are going with that. Very pretty. I would personally probably go with full cut for this design because I associate single cuts with a more romantic style.

In the pics I think your stone looks a bit brighter next to the yellow gold and the two tone mock-up looks wonderful. I would go with single cuts for sure on a piece like this. This will be gorgeous whatever you decide!

I just had an antique setting refurbished by DK and I had him use singlecuts. They are so beautiful ! They are white and sparkly, but not glitter bombs like full cuts. I think especially with your main stone, the singlecuts would be the way to go. My 2 cents.

I agree with you and would keep the bail articulated. What I meant was to use something more consistent with the design. Like in this pendant it looks like the bail was custom made to mimic the diamond shapes of the design rather than a standard bail.

There are many PSers on this board who are great at design and hopefully will chime in. Your inspiration has beautiful geometric lines so you have lots of options. You could do the part circled in red if you want a skinnier bail, the part in blue if you wanted a bigger bail, or even use the corner as inspiration by adding a third diamond and making a triangular shape and keep the slit with milgrain between the diamonds. The bail they used is consistent with the time period and pretty, but if you are going the CAD / custom route I would take the opportunity to ponder if you might like a design “lifted” from the piece. If not, no worries.

Ooh, I see what you mean. That element would look cool in the bail.

I had also considered making the “Greek key” part of the side gallery, where in the inspo, there are circles and triangles. I mean since I’m going custom...

I’m curious what adjustments he will have to make for the clipped corners on my stone, whereas the inspo stone is rectangular. That might change the look of the corners.

With the clipped corners you might ask him to fill in the space with another triangle w/ diamond element. Excuse the quick mock up.

Here's a greek key type bail I found , but you could Google search, find one you like better.
