I have been reading this forum for months now but this is my first time posting.

I never thought that I would end up buying a loose diamond online but I just did!

I wanted to get your opinion on my diamond and see if I paid the right price for it.

Details on the diamond: http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-search?pt=setform&track=NavDiaSeaRD#diamonds_pid=LD03666734
Price paid: $5064.00

I also just found a similar diamond that costs $1500 more:

Not sure why and if I should be worried about the quality of my diamond.

Thanks in advance

Very poor cut.

Good cut makes a diamond have beautiful light performance, not clarity or color.
Good cut is the most important C, but the least understood.
Everyone understands carat weight but few understand good cut.
To get a diamond to be cut for light performance they have to grind away more of the precious rough material.
That's why most diamonds are cut to be as heavy as possible, not to perform well.

Here is an easy 2-step way to find a well cut round diamond:
Plug 4 numbers from the GIA report into the HCA: https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca

Reject diamodns that score over 2.0
Get an Idealscope pic on those that score under 2.0: https://www.pricescope.com/tools/ideal-scope

Compare it to this chart:

Bluenile still stubbornly refuses to provide Idealscope pics but these excellent vendors do, goodoldgold, whiteflash, jamesallen, briangavindiamonds.

While this process guarantees a well-cut round, it may reject a few diamonds that experts with years of experience may not have rejected.
So what! You and I are not experts with years of experience.

can you return it?

Yes I have 14 days to return it for a full refund.

What would have been a good price for a diamond with a similar quality?

Ideal cuts of this color and clarity combo are probably running over 8000. The price you're looking at is significantly less, which means there is something wrong with it. You get what you pay for.

I agree with the others, very poorly cut. Return it if you can and start over. PSers can help you if you'd like.

I think you may have your priorities mixed up, or rather they are different than most PSers. Cut is everything in determining sparkle, which IMO is the whole point of a diamond. Please don't approach this seeking value for money, or trying to get a great deal, because you'll be very disappointed in the result.

All diamonds are priced for a reason, especially on online retailers such as BN who have very little markup compared to retail stores. In your case, the one you bought has very high color, many of which would call excessively high (but to each their own, there's nothing wrong with that). Also because it hits the magic 1ct number.

The time to ask is before you buy but fortunately, you can return the stone for a refund. It is very poorly cut. Determine what your budget is and then set about finding the best cut stone you can for the money. Diamonds are truly priced according to their make, cut and clarity. Internet vendors can offer lower prices but there truly are no real deals to be had in the diamond world. Worth is relative when talking about diamonds.

The question isn't what would be a good price for this diamond . The question is did I select the best cut diamond for my money. As others have already stated Cut is the first C......this stone you selected is good and symmetry and polish good. You should look for a stone with Excellent in those catagories I am sure that the vendor and PS ers will help you select a better cut diamond for your buck

It has Strong Blue Fluorescence, which probably will not be a problem.
Read this: https://www.pricescope.com/wiki/diamonds/diamond-flourescence

There is a small chance it may look milky/oily under light with a strong ultraviolet component, like sunlight.
Ask the vendor whether this Strong Blue does.
Only buy it if they have a return period.
It will glow blue under some light sources, and since blue is the hue it fluoresces that may help the diamond to look a bit closer to colorless in light with UV content.

Some fully-informed people actually like Fluorescence.
Some less-informed people are afraid of it which is why it lowers the price a bit.
The ones that DO go oily/milky really are to be avoided, and if you come across one it will likely be cheaper.

Ask the vendor for an Idealscop image.
The crown and pavilion angels you entered into the HCA are averages of the 8 angles around the diamond.
They may happen to all be the same or very close (a good thing) or may be all over the place (a bad thing) but average out to a number that HCA likes.
An Idealscope will reveal this.
If that vendor does not provide Idealscope images change vendors or buy your own idealscope here.
