Hello everyone. I am so glad forums like this exist and are able to help people like me, who are unedicuated about the Diamond buying process. I am in the market for an engagement ring and I do not know the 1st place to start. I would like to keep it under 10k but willing to spend that much. I do not want to take my girl to the store to search for the ring before hand, but I do have a couple of buddies who have purchased the stone in a cheapo setting and given their girl a budget on what they can spend on the band. I am certainly open to suggestions and need to be pointed in the right direction.

I live in NYC and close the the Dimond district, but I have mixed feelings about purchasing a ring from there. I would like to buy from someone in NYC or Long Island NY. Looking forward to your recommendations.

As far as what I (or she :roll eyes: ) wants. I really have no idea... She does have a Pinterest account which has a couple of pictures of rings she likes, but thats about all I have. I would think based on those pictures (and I can provide them) the stone would be round...

I can appreciate quality over a "big name" such as Tiffanys, so buying from a big name store is defiantly out of the question, but stylishtically im sure she would love something like that.

So... Where should I start? Where should I go? Im looking to be put in someones hands people know and trust, who will offer good value, and service. I am not looking to become a jewelry expert or devote months of time into research.

Thank you so very much. Looking forward to your replies.

Done! Thanks!

I think your best bet is to find out what is important for your future fiancee regarding her criteria for her e-ring.

1st most important is the what type of shape of ring she wants - round, cushion, OEC, emerald, princess, etc...

Then you go onto finding out where she ranks color, clarity, cut, and carat...some girls want size as an important factor, others prefer color...and every girl is different so I'd say your best bet is to start there.

Hope that helps!

Stan

My recommendation is to shop online and use a rational buying process. It is not all that hard to learn what you need to learn.

I personally would not trust anyone in the diamond district. I saw first hand how they blatantly lie.
